iPhone X handsets make up over 2 percent of the iPhone active installed base, just three weeks after it was released on November 3, according to research conducted by IHS Markit. The countries with the highest rates of adoption are markets with high gross domestic product per head, like Singapore, Denmark, Switzerland, and Japan.

According to IHS, countries where "Plus" models have been popular show a strong correlation with initial adoption rates for iPhone X, because consumers in those markets are more interested in larger displays and dual-lens camera technology, and are willing to spend more to get them.

Production constraints appear to have had little effect on early uptake of iPhone X, which is said to be "very similar" to adoption of previous flagship iPhones launches over the same period, said IHS analysts.
In the US, iPhone X adoption after three weeks matched the adoption of iPhone 8 Plus and beat early adoption levels for both the iPhone 8 and 7 Plus. Only the iPhone 7 model had greater initial success. In Japan, initial iPhone X adoption was as good as or better than any recent iPhone launch, and matched the level of the iPhone 7.
Apple is set to enjoy its best ever year for iPhone, according to IHS, with year-on-year increases in iPhone shipments over the next four quarters. In the fourth quarter of 2017, IHS Markit forecasts Apple will ship 88.8 million iPhones, which would be the highest number of iPhones ever to be shipped in a single quarter.

Shipping 31 million iPhone X units would cause the iPhone average selling price (ASP) to exceed US$700 for the first time in the iPhone's 10-year history, assuming total shipments in the quarter amount to 88.8 million.

Shipping estimates for the iPhone X continue to improve in many countries. In the United States, iPhone X models ordered today will arrive in just about a week, while several European stores list delivery dates of December 12. In line with IHS Markit's analysis, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier claimed that improved iPhone X shipping estimates are due to better-than-expected improvements in production, rather than a lack of demand for the new device.

Not sure how the X managed that with the crazy lead times.
I ordered mine on launch day and only received it on Saturday.
The UK isn’t mentioned above, mainly the shortage was worst over here?

Singapore has the highest rate of adoption is one thing, but the number of people actually using in public is almost non-existent.

I’ve had mine since launch day, but have yet to see one in person. And most who see mine say it’s the first one they have seen.

Has anyone found how they have conducted thier analysis ? The basis of the data ?

Yes... it’s a fantastic phone with fantastic user experience... leaps and bounds beyond anything else on the market today.

Everyone I show the phone to stare at it like if it was a giant diamond. The more people see it in person, the more sales will explode.

I went to my carriers website, ordered it on Nov 3rd, and picked it up at the store that morning. I think wait times were not as bad as people were thinking they would be.

It’s a nice enough phone with some design compromises I'm not personally a fan of and about twice as expensive as I think it should be. I prefer my SE, and if that didn’t exist I’d probably have got an 8. I did like the X more in person than looking at it online though, so I agree that the more people who see one, the better it will do.

IMHO I don’t even look at the Plus iPhones as phones, more like mini tablets that happen to be able to make phonecalls.

I’m with you guys on this (I’m in Australia). The only other X I’ve seen in the wild is owned by my brother!

Hands down best iPhone ever though. It’s a joy to use and I haven’t loved an iPhone this much since the original (and maybe the 4). Apple knocked this one out of the park.

I'm from Croatia. I work in a building full of 'tech' companies. More then 400 people work in that building. And I have seen just one IP X besides mine. Which is strange, since every year I would see a lot of new iPhone models when they arrive in my country.

Well, Apple developed and shipped the iPhone X for two reasons: Introduce new technologies and testing the price sensivity of its customer base. While the former for sure is welcome, the latter will tell them that customers are even willing to pay even more allthough iPhones are already on the top of that list. So we already know now which direction we're heading.

I've seen quite a few, they've been very popular at the office for a start and if I scan around the MRT on any journey I usually see one. If adoption is around 2% of iPhones at this point, and given than iPhone is what .. 10-20% of the market here, seeing one on any given MRT journey sounds about right.

They certainly were moving out the door last time I was at Apple Orchard, perhaps Santa is storing them up for the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER! (lah)

The article content is accurate and expected. iPhone X is the best iPhone in the iPhone history and it had awesome launch day, while iPhone 8/8+ is the iPhone 7/7+ with minor tweaks = iPhone 7/7+S.
I am one of the fortunates who were able to get it on the launch day. Congratulations to all of us who were able to get the iPhone X in the launch day and keep it until the next one comes or permanently. Getting it during the launch day is special.

I am a tech guy and opted for the 8. I have a lot of friends with money and a lot of friends that chase the latest Apple thing. However, I am yet to see any of my friends with a X. One thing I've seen is adoption of the latest watch. But hardly the X or even the 8.

From a U.S. perspective, I've been buying iPhones since the original, then every other year except this year as I bought a 7 last year and X this year.

I can't say my own experience buying the X was much different than previous years in spite of mountain of "constrained production" reports. Apple's own pre-ordering was goofy -- couldn't get into the store for the first 8 min. then left with 2-3 weeks shipping. But over at the T-Mob site I was able to get a launch day phone. I bought one, but then decided I wanted a VZW/Qualcomm model so I lined up at 6am at a local Apple Store. I didn't know what kind of stock they had went I lined up but later discovered they had enough to fuel them until closing and a few hours the next day.

So getting the X on launch day was a pain, but getting an iPhone on launch day always is. But I didn't detect a serious shortage of phones. And we have seen shipping times quickly fade to 1 week. It kind of mirror's last years 8+.

I have one since day one,it’s definitely the best iPhone yet.

The swipe gestures are definitely superior to pressing home button and I got used to them within seconds of use.

Infact now when I pick a normal phone I try to swipe because it’s so natural.

The size is very ergonomical.

The OLED screen is visibly superior to the best LCD screens such as 7 Plus and 8 Plus.it just looks better and blacks are so much richer.

Face ID has been issue free and works as good as touch ID.

The price however is something I’m not happy about now.
it REALLY shouldn’t be this expensive and there is no justification.

These changes are nice but should have been normal new-cycle features with regular pricing.

If you are a tech guy then you appreciate scientifically arrived at statistics. The odds of seeing a random person with a X weeks after launch is small because it's maybe 10m phones in the wild vs 740+ million people in Europe or 300+ million people in the U.S. Needle in a haystack in most places right now. How may Porche Macans do you see daily? Probably not too many compared to Jeep Grand Cherokees. Doesn't mean it's not a popular model.

OTOH AW has been out for 2.5 years so it's had a lot more time to get on lots of wrists. Hard to compare that with a phone that has been out for weeks. Even anecdotally.

I work part time for Manchester Arena. More specifically doing search for customers passing through X-Ray before they enter the venue. So we get to see all customers phones being placed in a basked before they go through X-Ray arches, and I Have noticed that to my surprise I do see quite a few iPhone X's go through for each event.
