I have also purchased every phone and upgraded at launch each time. This time I am ineligible for an early upgrade. I contacted AT&T and they explained that you can only get one early upgrade per 18 months. Are they just feeding me a line to shut me up or has anyone else had this problem??

Right now, they also want to charge me $599. So don't feel bad. If it doesn't change by June 20th, then I will give up on my quest for iPhone 4.

That's the same crap they fed me when I talked to them on Tuesday. I bought the 3G on launch subsidized, then the 3GS on launch day with an early upgrade, and now this year it says my "early upgrade" is in November, and my full upgrade is on 2/11/2011. I could see how this might make sense for any regular phone upgrades, but according to AT&T's press release it says anyone who is not eligible for an upgrade at this time may purchase iPhone 4 at an early upgrade price. This is all supposed to be special for the iPhone release.

I am awaiting a message from my AT&T rep still while her manager researches this stupid scenario that some of us are in.

Ha. I first had an iPhone 3G on launch date. Then, the next year I purchased my iPhone 3GS on launch date too and I have been eligible for an upgrade since March 2010. Crazy right? I think I'll go with it. :p I am super happy I am upgrade eligible so early! I don't even think I have to pay the $18 dollar fee since I have been upgrade eligible for a long time.
I have a Family Plan and a texting plan (Not unlimited though. The cheapest one.)

attempt to cancel

what are the chances if I threat to cancel and go else where they will let me go ahead and upgrade to the at the 199 price?

has anyone tried this?

Im on a single line and upgraded to the 3GS on July 7th (299) and my upgrade date is Dec 2010, it says i am NOT eligible for the 199/299 price.

So you are going to threaten to cancel and move to another carrier if they refuse to give you cheaper pricing on an AT&T-only phone?

Yeah, that'll work...
