I bought a 3GS last August, which was renewed cause I bought the 3G the year before. If I remember correctly they allowed 3G owners to get 3GS at the upgrade price if you bought it in June, July August.

Are they going to be offering something similar again this year?

If your contract is up any time in 2010, you can get upgrade pricing immediately when the iPhone 4 is launched (June 24).

Well I bought it last August so it's a two year renewal...into 2011.

How can anyones 3gs contract be up in 2010? If you got one, it's 2 years from July, which is 2011...

Then you will likely need to wait or pay full retail.

Hopefully they'll have a less-reduced price for 3GS buyers, like, $399 or $499 for the 16gb or 32gb, respectively. It's still better than full retail.

Apologies, I misspoke. Of course, no one with a 3GS can have fulfilled their contract yet.

What I meant to say is that, according to the keynote, if your UPGRADE ELIGIBILITY date is anytime in 2010, you can upgrade immediately.

AT&T addressed this today. Go check your account, you are probably eligible. I bought the 3GS on launch day and as of today I am eligible to upgrade at the reduced price with a new 2 year contract.

I assume based on monthly usage some people's contract ends up running out before the end of this year, even though they got a 3gs last year. Thus if they get in before December 31st, they are upgrade eligible.

If you had a 24 month contract reduced to 18 months due to billing, you would then be eligible for 6 more months off if you were before the end of 2010.

I have a 3GS and I am up for standard (ie $299 32GB) upgrade with a $18 upgrade fee... I'm thinking of actually selling my 3GS, anyone want to buy it? It's jailbroken, unlockable (just download blacksn0w) and has tethering allowed. It's has a screen protector over it, casing and great condition (smoke free environment).

It's up for grabs for first person to PM me. Price? Don't know the price, let me do some eBay check up. Obviously, I won't sell it until after the 24th.

If I remember correctly, the 3GS was released in the UK on June 19th 2009, and the minimum contract length was 18 months, which takes it to 19th December 2010.

So are they saying that you can upgrade early if you bought your iPhone 3GS in the first 12 days (takes an 18 month contract to Dec 31st 2010) of release and opted for an 18 month contract?

Seems like a very narrow window of people will qualify.

This is for AT&T customers. Not UK customers.

    When did this happen?

I checked my account not too long ago, and I am getting a february date for my 3GS bought on launch date.

I am going to check it again when I can. Site seems to be down

I just check my upgrade on my account online I'm on Premier account. Last month when I click on upgrade for the phone device it said I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. So I check it this morning now it says I am eligible but I can't add an iPhone just other smartphone to the list of upgrade. I have an iPhone 3GS got it back in Aug when we first sign our 2yr contract.

So the question I have am I eligible to get the new iPhone 4? or do I have to re-new my contract to a two yr and pay little more than $299 price?

It appear as though AT&T will once again allow you to purchase the new iPhone before your upgrade date with a partial subsidy ($399/$499). They call it an "Early Upgrade" in their press release:

that is how I got a 3GS last July even though I had got a 3G the summer before...I think they take off $100 bucks or so from the full retail price IF you spend more than a 100 a month on your bill

I got my 3gs in August. Not eligible for full discount till april of 2011 but am eligible for "discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price" with a 2-yr contract.

I have an 18 month contract, so hopefully I may be able
to upgrade without the normally stupid reasoning of 'paying off
the rest of the contract at once'

    a bit confused

can anyone explain why i am not eligable for an upgrade. I bought a 3GS on July 25th, 2009 at an early upgrade price and att say im not eligible for another upgrade until march. However my sister bought an iphone 3G in september of 2009 and she is eligable for subsidised pricing?

I've bought every iPhone on the launch date. I've been eligible for a full upgrade every year so far, and it's no different this time.

I have a family plan with AT&T with unlimited texting and a bill that is $135 a month.

I have also purchased every phone and upgraded at launch each time. This time I am ineligible for an early upgrade. I contacted AT&T and they explained that you can only get one early upgrade per 18 months. Are they just feeding me a line to shut me up or has anyone else had this problem??
