Based on the thread title, I thought we were talking about eating healthy. Biochemically, those fries are going to ravage your body.

The OP is confusing "healthy" and weight loss. Reading his actual post indicates his goal is weight loss.

Anyway, what makes you think fat isn't good for the body ? You do need to have some fat in your diet. That's where dairies, avocadoes, virgin oils, coconut and other nuts come in.

Ahh, I guess I figured OP wanted to be both more healthy and lose weight.

But I didn't say fat was bad, olive and nut oils are good for you and essential to a proper diet---everything in balance. Replacing all of your meals with fries might lead to weight loss if you eat sufficiently few of them, but you'll probably be suffering pretty bad in terms of health. When it comes to processed foods it isn't just the super high caloric density, but one also should consider just how fast these refined starches are broken down into sugars. You might as well eat tablespoons full of syrup.

Calories are not exchangeable when it comes to health. If OP doesn't care about that and just wants to lose weight, then it is merely a question of portion control and exercise. Although eating healthy can have quite a positive effect on weight loss in and of itself.

One can over-eat calories while eating healthy. Have you looked at the caloric density of nuts lately ? ;)

Weight loss is balancing your caloric intake to be less than your caloric output. Once you've figured out that part, then it's time to start replacing food with the healthy stuff, maintaining your ratio of calories burned vs calories eaten.

The caloric portion of weight loss is very important. If you don't balance it, you can eat healthy all you want and still be as fat as a whale.

When giving advice about weight loss, one should never dismiss talking about calories.

We don't disagree at all.:) It was never my intention to dismiss talking about calories.;)

My food

Hey, I often spend time out of home and usually only have a pan and a pot which kind of makes me cook healthy :) I usually cook rice and chicken and fry it with live oil (which is a lot healthier than most other oils).

My favourite meal which only takes 10-15 minutes is fried chicken breast (spiced with fresh pepper) with parmesan cheese and ruccula salad. That's just awesome and definitely healthy. Also, you only need a pan to make it.

I think there is not hard and fast rule for that. Just be sure about it.
Avoid junk food, drink plenty of water.
But don't use it excessively coz it can cause dropsy. Does anyone know about

Whatever you like to eat; don't eat it.
Whatever you don't like to eat; eat that.

Replace pop with water

Exercise.

That doesn't work if what you like to eat is actually quite healthy. Like Sofia, I like vegetables and even more so in the summer because I can grill them. I can't imagine not eating them.

3 mins of exercise a week can apparently help you to lose weight.

It does work, but only on certain people. I'm getting a cycling machine to try it. Its's only a minute three times a week, after all! There are also numerous apps on the App Store to help you time it. Search hit timer.

1 second of exercise a week can help you lose weight. Burning an extra 1 calorie through physical exercise helps. How much does it help though ? Not much.

Cycling machine, 3 minutes... you'll burn about 50 calories if you keep a very rapid pace for those 3 minutes (think something like 110-120 rpm at a good resistance level).

I have no general knowledge of how to eat healthy. I have always had a fast metabolism and worked at jobs where I was on my feet for majority of the day. So I always ate whatever I wanted and never really gained weight. I know my metabolism has slowed down now, out of college and a few years into the professional workforce. I spend most of my day in cubicle hell, so I am noticing I am gaining weight. I weigh about 165, so not overweight but I want to get back to about 140-145.

My current food habits are typically fast food, frozen pizzas, burgers, chicken, peanut butter, chips, hotdogs and general other crap. The only positive thing is that I have cut back my pop consumption pretty drastically in the last month. I went from about 8-12 to 2-3 cans a day and drink about 48-64oz of water a day now.

I can't remember when the last time I ate vegetables or fruit. So how do you learn to eat healthy? How do you drastically change your diet? How do you get a better idea of what you should and shouldn't be eating?

Thanks

If you're looking to loose weight, I would recommend either cutting down or cutting own the meat/dairy products. I personally don't eat them but if you do then just to lose weight you should cut back on them.

Cutting back on dairy is not that great an idea.

Really, it's easy guys, I don't know why everyone is all over the place with "try this and that". Just make sure you don't eat more calories than you burn. You'll lose weight.

Hard, fast rule. Calories in < Calories out = Weight loss.

Yes, it is that damn easy, not "try just white meats and water, with orange juice in the morning and balance a stack of grapes on your head for 30 minutes".

Heck, you can lose weight eating only McDonald's, Pizza and other junk as long as you follow the damn equation. Losing weight has nothing to do with eating healthy.

Eating healthy is just a matter of cutting back on processed foods and using more raw ingredients to make your own foods. Rediscover seasonings, fresh herbs instead of sugar/salt. 5-10 fruit/vegetables a day, enough dairy for a good calcium intake, carbohydrates for energy, meat and substitutes for protein. Stick to your metabolic needs.

People on ketodiets lose weight and and that diet relies on consumption of meat and certain types of dairy.

There's all sorts of diets. Weight has nothing to do with your choice in food and that's why they all "work".

However, all these specialized diets need to be carefully studied in order for your body to get all the vitamins and other nutrients it needs to be healthy. Losing weight does not mean you're healthy or even eating healthy.

Yeah I agree, it's just calorie counting.

For speed though (shedding BF faster than the typical 1-2 lbs a week), I recommend going into ketosis.
