Another win for the recycling bin: A budget 2019 15" notebook from Asus, with the catchy name of VivoBook 15 X510QA-SS12-CB. At first glance it looks like a decent quality budget laptop, except that it has a really cheap-feeling keyboard, which feels just like the 2013 Proscan 14" windows-tablet-internals-stuffed-into-a-laptop MacBook Air clone I have in my nugget horde. The topcase chassis flexes and bends while typing, adding to the light squishy feel of the keys. And it has a beautifully eye-watering display with everyone's favorite resolution, 1366 x 768.
As you can imagine, it's a real screamer with an AMD A12 (not to be confused with the Apple A12!) x86 SoC from 2017, of which one of the most positive comments on notebookcheck.net is that "Many games from 2015/2016 can be played smoothly at low settings."
All that snark aside, it's a totally fine computer for basic web tasks and media consumption. With MX Linux, this machine is actually pretty good from my standards (well, subpar display aside, but I've seen and used much, much worse). you'd hardly notice that it has an AMD "APU" which was already outdated at the time this machine came out.
Not surprisingly given the RAMpocalypse, despite the fact that almost everything on this machine, from the webcam to the display to the USB ports, and even the battery all work fine (I haven't tested the fingerprint sensor, though it does appear in Hardinfo2), this machine was left stripped of its 8 GB DDR4 RAM and its stock 256 GB SSD. A shame to see perfectly serviceable hardware wasted like this.
