I tried to sell a very clean macbook on ebay in mid-December. Had to re-list 3x due to non-paying bidders, which is very frustrating because i had to wait 7 days for them to NOT pay and then file a claim to get a refund on your listing fees. It was a terrible waste of time. Got tired of the ebay BS. Listed it on craigslist a month ago and sold it for pretty much the same price I was expecting to get on ebay. BTW, I had it listed on craigslist in december too but got no serious offers.

But timing is everything. In retrospect trying to sell a high priced item around christmas when money is tight for a lot of people was a mistake.

If it doesn't sell you have to be persistent about re-listing your item and don't get discouraged if you get no inquires the first few times. You just need that right buyer to come along. :)

Now with the new eBay rules unless you have over 100 feedback score you are considered a risky seller and they will withhold your buyer's payment for up to 21 days - google all the complaints about the new rules that took effect Feb.20th.

Maestrokev - Thank you for alerting me to this! It took quite a bit of searching (on both PayPal and eBay) to track down this new rule change. I finally found it buried in an announcement titled merely "Seller Details." Clearly, it wasn't something they really wanted people to know about - especially the newer, less experienced sellers who'd be most impacted by it. So much for my plan to sell something on eBay if it doesn't sell on craigslist.

I especially like the fact that on top of everything else, eBay now gets to enjoy 21 days of interest earned on all so-called "risky" transactions!!!

And apparently there's no way to avoid this because newer sellers are also required to offer PayPal or a merchant credit card as a payment option. Auugghhh!!!

I use to sell macbooks on Greedbay (eBay) and now I only sell on Craigslist and I love it. I will only meet people in crowded locations for cash transactions from using Craigslist and I have had zero problems.

yes, many advertise to sell on CL and meet in a bank or a crowded place but the bad guys will smarten up and next time will wait ... cause at one point you'll have to leave the bank / crowded place and they'll get you on your way home  and might even know where you live, is that better

Anyone else think eBay should die in a fire? :)
i Do
i spent on my MBP around 1800 pounds four months ago
and the bidding went up to 1040 pounds. That is rubbish. Thanks God i had the item reserved for a higher price.

they only reason there was, i didnt have a nice ebay account, i am new there and dont do a lot of ebaying.
people didnt trust me, i mentioned that they can come to my house and test it themselves but, i can agree it is a bit difficult.
anyway, i am happy with it. it will serve me well.

is there any craiglist for UK?

EDIT: it seems there is, but it is deserted
