I tried the marketplace a while ago but people were offering way below of what was worth and nobody really offered any decent price to purchase it.
But that was 3+ years back.
Yeah, I tried selling a 2012 MBP on here but people on here only buy if they see a good deal. No one on here wants to pay market value.
Never had a problem on ebay (11 years now) or CL.

Looks like a scam to me, too.

I see a downturn with selling on eBay. I've sold my two "old" MacBooks on eBay. The second one was nearly three years ago and even then I was shocked about the high fees. For high value products I started looking for alternatives and found out, that my local Apple forum had a marketplace aswell. Sold my iPhone 4S there. Could offer it there for a little less than on eBay and still make more profit (without any fee).

My advice: report that buyer to eBay and don't send your iPhone over there.
It may help, if you limit the shipping to your own country.

I guess there will always be low offers. You never know what a person will take for something. I have had good luck with Craig's List but you got to be willing to "filter" through the emails to find someone serious. Still beats eBay. Selling any cellphone, especially a iPhone, will attract the worst!

Here in the UK, I have seen iPhone 6 sell for up to £7000.00. But every time I look at the sellers feed back they have always got 5 or less so presumably they are not experienced E-Bayers. These purchases are obviously scams. I just feel sorry for the sellers, but what can you do? There own common sense should tell them that nobody is going to pay that kind of money for an iPhone. The old saying that if it seems to be to good to be true it probably is, seem appropriate.

They only need 1 in 1000 to bite to make it worth their while.

The thing I don't get with eBay is they seem to be very inconsistent. I recently bought an (obviously) fake Sony DS3 (the sony text wasn't even in the middle), and had to really fight for my refund - they said they wanted written proof from sony directly before they could do anything.

I eventually got my money back after emailing the execs office (that trick works wonders), but the guy is still on there selling fake controllers (and has received further feedback about counterfeits). I guess eBay want the fees.

As a cautionary tale, I would advise members to not use eBay for popular items such as the iPhone.
I used eBay to try to sell the iPhone and a car this past month and I was met with low ball offers, fake bids, eBay charges and a negative rating from the item that was ultimately not sold.
Extremely horrible experience on eBay.
I would never sell anything on eBay anymore unless I had no choice.

The real question is what is the buyer's feedback? I sell and buy on eBay constantly and have never had any problems except for morons who joined a few days before my auction listing and have 0 feedback. I now monitor my auctions and block those people.

Any updates tho? You have scattered your info. You said your giving the guy a refund after he paid? You started this "thread" as if you were not going to get paid? Are you the scammer? Kidding...

Any updates tho?

I'm confused, the buyer payed for your item and you are obligated to send it to him. Why are you refunding him?
B/c the expected and reasonable price for the item is ~$600, but the buyer paid $890, so with all of the discussion of fraud on eBay the seller is skeptical of the buyer and leery that he may lose his phone, and reasonably so.

Also look into selling on Amazon guys. Fees are lower than Ebay for cell phones and buyers seem more reasonable. I haven't had any problems on there yet. Often times they pay more than the buyers on Swappa as well.
I sold an iphone 4S on ebay; no problems with the buyer or process. My only problem was with the gouge-fee imposed by ebay and Paypal.

I bought an iphone 5 on Amazon from an individual selling his (this is a few years ago). Both my sale and the purchase worked flawlessly - nice people both times.

just sold my 5s on eBay to a buyer with 1 feedback (totally new just created account).

Shipped today the iPhone and getting worried a bit right now.

Though sent it wit signature confirmation and tracking.

I wouldn't worry. He/she already paid you and you shipped it with signature confirmation which is a good way to do things.
I sold a Macbook Air to a bidder with zero feedback 3 months ago and no problems. Not all new eBay members are scammers.

You CAN set parameters to decrease the amount of bad apples. It's no guarantee, but helps. I've sold my phones every year for a handsome profit (jailbroken) on eBay.

Also looking at the Amazon avenue.
