So, I have a Titanium G4 1Ghz with an msata 256GB SSD and tenfourfox seems to be working great with all websites, except for eBay - It’s very slow going through listings.. can someone advise how to fix this and please don’t say it’s the Titanium, as this has 1MB L3 like the MDD’s have 1 or 2MB L3.

Its a very nice PowerBook and seems faster in many things due to the L3 cache, something my 2005-2006 PB G4 DLSD lacks. Also, would a SuperDrive from a DLSD fit in the titanium ?

thanks

try it on other machines, eBay is chunky on old machines anyway so I think your problem is actually hardware. are you using anything to block ads?

Yes, I have 104fox ad blocker installed.. tried it also on my Pb 1.67 DLSD. Same thing - this machine has L3 which should help.

While useable, ebay is a pig of a webiste & slow on all of my powerPC machines save my dualcore 2ghz Powermac G5 which is still not fast. It would be dog slow on a Titanium. I agree a mobile UA would be ideal on such ancient hardware.

You might want to try using Leopard Webkit instead. It's not as widely compatible as Tenfourfox, but on sites it does work with (including eBay), it is much faster.

I actually browse eBay pretty frequently on G4's. It's slow but not that slow. It runs about as good as this website does honestly. I usually do it on "faster" G4's though. Like 1.5GHz+ PowerBooks.
Like anything else we do for fun around here, you just gotta have patience. I ordered Pizza from PowerPC a couple times during the PPC challenge this year; and the Mac placed the order faster than dominoes got my Pizza here!😁

G4's though. Like 1.5GHz+ PowerBooks - sorry to say this, but my PB GE 1.67 feels a lot slower than the Titanium G4 1GHZ due to the L3 cache, the 7447A is a step backwards with no L3. And ebay was slow slow slow with this, at least on my ti G4 its faster. Leopard Webkit is nice, but when I disable java script, I can't log into my ebay account.

Yeah we've had this conversation before. I own all those models and disagree. The TiBook is good but it's not that good.

How much RAM do your computers have? I would suggest maxxing it out. RAM is thousands of times faster than disk, and it seems that it takes at least a gigabyte to do anything, like view a picture, on the modern web.

Just dropped ebay into a fox box and it's much better - quite usable on a single 1.33ghz ibookg4 with 1.25gb ram. Did the same to Amazon and while a bit slower as its even more of a pig of a website, it loaded up and was entirely usable as well.

@wicknix, does Arcticfox or iceweasel have a foxbox style funtionality?

I did modify foxbox to work with arcticfoxppc (called arcticbox..heh), but for my own personal use. I didn't release it because I didn't feel that'd be morally right. However you can do the same. Only takes a few minutes to modify tenfourfoxbox to work with other Mozilla based browsers. Just replace all entries pointing to tenfourfox.app and replace with arcticfoxppc.app or iceweaselppc.app.

Cheers

You can even get creative and change the icons. Here's my personal use "foxbox" app for Arctic Fox. I created 2. One for arcticfoxppc on leopard, and one for snow leopard.

Edit: A good name for a custom iceweasel-ppc foxbox would be "IceBox" ;)
