I may be grabbing one of these here shortly and selling my Nest 3rd Generation. I just put a new furnace and AC unit in my house last September. During the winter, the Nest did fantastic. I've been working with the contractor since end of May trying to figure out why my AC runs all the time. They finally decided to throw a standard old thermostat on and now my AC is running perfectly. It turns off when it reaches the temp, and it properly cools. The Nest kept sensing extra heat some how in it's location.

The company ran an extension from where it is currently and 3M tapped it to another wall to see if it was just the location since it was showing a few degrees hotter there for some reason. We ran it like that for a couple weeks and still the AC just kept running all day long without a single break. They then put this old crappy Honeywell on the wall that has a couple switches and up and down arrows and it's only been a couple days now and my AC is working great. Like it should, shutting off when it gets to temp.

I think it's the Nest, so I may try the Ecobee4 instead and sell the Nest.

If you don't care about having Alexa integrated the Ecobee3 is the same otherwise and works great. The nice thing about Ecobee is the remote sensors, no more need to worry about the temp at the thermostat itself.

So there's no difference between the two at all other than a few aesthetics and Alexa integration? I honestly had planned on turning it [Alexa] off if I did go that route. If this is true then I'd rather get the 3 and save.

No other difference. I have 3 of the Ecobee3's with many remote sensors and no issues at all. My issue now is wanting a slightly larger more efficient unit to replace one I have now but there are other things to care for first. Didn't mention but last I saw the Alexa function in the 4 is not aware of other Alexa devices in the area so will reply every time it hears a request for info.
