ITS A TABLET!!? why compact and more difficult to use it? IT DOESN'T have to fit into your pocket like a smartphone

But the size could remain the same I am not saying to shrink it ? It could remain 9.7" and appear larger that would be added bonus :)

That would be dumb. i don't want my hand on the web page accidentally clicking things when I am just trying to hold it.

Sounds like you should just buy a Samsung tablet and see for yourself if that really is a better design.

As others pointed out, that would be a really bad design for an iPad.

I didn't even mind the larger bezels the iPad 4 and older had as there are times when laying in bed resting my iPad Air 2 on my chest that the sheets cover the a bit of the bottom of the iPad since the bezels are smaller and it doesn't stick up as much. Not a deal breaker, but something I noticed when I first got my previous iPad Air.
This drives me nuts. I can never get the sheets/comforter flat enough to stay within the lower bezel.

So how is it working on the Samsung Phone then ?
Again you seem to be stuck on the idea that because something can be done it is somehow the best UI experience to actually do it. I like the Bezels on my iPad, I don't understand this fascination with borderless screens. If the iPad was a true flexible scroll-like device then I would see the value. Until then, I don't get the fuss.

Apple can be very treacherous in that sense, just overnight completely change what has been a trend so far...

I am worried if I buy an 9.7" iPad Pro now, only on condition that I wanna keep it for atleast 3-4 years do not have the moolah to upgrade every year and what if Apple completely comes up with a overhauled, new, display design for the iPad in the next 3-4 years my money has gone down the drain ! Technological bumps (Processor/RAM) I dont mind can't stop that but design overhaul that hurts ! If it is gonna happen say next year or so...
Stay home and sit in the dark basement. Don't buy anything evermore. It will always be better than the previous versions.

Doesn't mean it's a good idea. Sometimes, just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done. I don't think I'd like no bezels and nowhere to hold the device without blocking the screen. But I'm sure Apple is capable of producing such a device. Whether or not they will is anyone's guess.

As Dr Ian Malcolm said about Jurassic Park ....

What would be so hard about a dynamic virtual bezel that senses where you are holding the tablet? The sensors are almost all already in place...orientation, ambient light. Maybe it could just be on all the time when using the web or reading a book, but make itself disappear when watching a movie propped up in a case or just resting on your lap.

iOS already ignores touch input on the edge of the screen when it detects you're holding an iPad and your thumb isn't actually trying to touch anything.

An edge to edge iPhone screen would still be possible in that regard.

The next one will have bezel-less display but it won't have 3D Touch yet so you'd be throwing your money in a toilet to buy before they get that part and be forever future proofed. Buy now and Samsung will laugh at u :eek::apple:

Doesn't always work. I often end up zooming instead of scrolling because my thumb is touching the screen, so the scrolling motion with my index finger is combined with the thumb input to be interpreted as a two-point spreading motion.

Weird, because I've never had an issue with mine.

3D touch is barely being used by people even with iPhones and will not be on ipads anytime soon...I expect 3D touch will be converted to a long press....which will be our glorified right click....

It saddens me that my best attempt at sounding ridiculous passes as a believable post these days.

Samsung has already proven with its phone that it can be done ! It is possible !

And its been proven that its technically possible to tap a screen with a stylus to write an email.

What's your point? :p

Not well. A friend has an Edge 7 and commented how it's too easy to hit stuff on the edge display by accident.

Maybe so, but that edge display is really handy for situations where you can have your phone in front of you, but for some reason can't see the front of the screen.

I can count on exactly no fingers how many times I've been in that situation.

Exactly. In my brief usage of the Note 5 and S7 Edge, it was, for the most part, a pain in the ass. Bezels may not look as sexy, but they actually serve a purpose. Easier to handle the device and not constantly be hitting the screen or a capacitive back button.

Could Apple's bezels stand to be trimmed up a little? Sure, but it's Apple. They love bezels! OP has nothing to worry about.

I've had no issues using the note 5 because of the bezels or the nexus 6p. I don't personally like the edge phones so can't comment on that.

I prefer the iPhone so I stay with it, but Apple definitely needs to get rid of some bezel, not saying all but definitely some.

I think most complain about how it would suck and they don't want Apple to change the bezels, these seem like the same people that said they didn't want a larger phone and Apple wouldn't do it.

Now they are the same ones that bash a smaller iPhone and they couldn't go back now.

Until Apple does it most will not want it.

One thing is absolutely certain, in 4 years time there will be a significantly better, likely somewhat different iPad. In fact there will be a few of them.

Technology doesn't stand still, ever, for anything. You've just got to pick something that you're going to be happy with and just enjoy it. There's always something better on the horizon, if you always wait for the something better you'll never take the plunge and you'll miss out on years of enjoyable ownership.

To paraphrase a wise man (ahem) technology moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and make a choice once in a while, you'll miss it.....

..... Yeah yeah, I know, terrible but my medication has kicked in it's the best I could do :p

2 words: thumb rejection

This would make bezel less screen work correctly on an iPad. The problem isn't if the bezel less screen should be built but how to make it work with human hands. The simple answer for the iPad was to have bezels so you could hold it without activating the touchscreen. Now, we have palm rejection technology so why not adapt it so we can have smaller devices, smarter software, and even cheaper production cost? The only issue with this idea is if you're watching something on the iPad and have to hold it. Your thumbs would kind of block the view a little.
