Must only be the original Bondi model, because my Rev. B model has a fan. But thanks for pointing that out.

They tray loaders have a decent sized fan over the CPU/heatsink. My Rev. A Bondi Blue has one(it's one of the few things on the computer that works :) ).

The slot loaders(i.e. later production) are the fanless ones.

He hasn't actually upgraded it yet. Don't encourage him to get ahead of himself again :)
Yeah but it does say cMB 2009 OS X 10.0.4

I know, I figured it was easier to just put it into my sig and no have to change it after I swap the boards.

It takes a lot of effort to get the fan on my iBook G4 12in 1.25GHz on. I have to play Minecraft on it for at least 5 minutes and then it finally turns on, and even then it doesn't seem nearly as powerful as the ones in my MacBooks

All tray loading G3 iMacs have a fan. None of the slot loading models have a fan.

Ah ok. I never noticed the absence of a fan on my slot-loaders.

Pure opposite on my G4, I think it's cause I used a crap thermal paste when I cleaned the heat sinks

I got the paste at Radioshack the only stuff they have is Arctic Silver Ceramique... Not the greatest but hey, it's thermal paste

The fans seem to rarely come on with my mid-2012 15". I even set it to "best performance" when plugged in(which means that it uses the discreet GPU only) and have made an effort to get it up there.

By contrast, I can actually get my 2011 13" cranking surprisingly easily. It's been a while since I cleaned the air passages out-perhaps I should do that. Now that it's out of Applecare, I can repaste it also. I can't repaste the 15" as it's still under Applecare.

I have SMC Fan Control tied to the GPU temperature on my early '08s. By the time the GPU hits 60ºC, both fans are cranking at 6000 rpms.

Playing YT videos does it on my 12" iBook G4 1.33, and I'm glad it doesn't have to come on more often, since the bearings sound bad and it needs to be replaced.

I've always been able to reliably get AS5 at Radio Shack. It's my "go to" thermal paste for everything, even though it's a bit dated now. It's never let me down, though.

The last time I was at Microcenter, I bought a HUGE tube of it that about 10x the size of the tiny syringes and was actually not incredibly expensive(I think around $30 compared to $8-10 for the small syringes).

I was thinking the same thing as my 2011, except I may try and get more life out of it with a 512 GB SSD, and 16 GB RAM.

My 13in MBP will turn on if I'm watching 720/1080p video on my 1920x1080 second monitor very quickly. Doing the same thing on the native screen with no second monitor attached it takes a little while for it to turn on. On my MB, playing any game and watching a YouTube video after 30 or so seconds, the fans are on full blast, probably because of the crappy GMA X3100 it has

A GMA 950 will make you sing the praises of the X3100 all day long :) . I have three computers with 950s('06 CD Mini, '06 C2D iMac, late '07 Blackbook). After using one of these, using my mid-09 Whitebook is a real joy :)

I still use the Blackbook more often, though :)

Thats smart, I would do that with SMC Fan Control also. I really need to get this Quad project going, I kinda want to get this one over so I can tackle my TiBook and 2 Lombards

Ceramique isnt bad. Its reccomended for macbook pros since it has a high-temp rating.

The Fan in my Tray Load G3 Literally IS the only thing that works, the PSU is dead, the CD Drive is broken the A/V board is dead. I should scrap it one of these days

I have some AS Ceramic....... seems no different than anything else, Thermal Paste is Thermal Paste.

Just like tires are tires
Different thread. and for people like me that hardly drive anywhere, yes, tires are tires. I have a set of Kumho's on mine on the front. Working on computers is what I do for a living, so yes I can say, Thermal paste is Thermal paste. Using both Artic Silver 5 and Artic Silver Ceramic They cool just the same, not one i better than the other.
