Are you guys morons?? The list of updates always says the same thing on the top and the bottom. The list of fixes/bugs is almost always plural but that doesn't mean it can be a singular item. They don't change all of the download software just to clarify.

Again, why would they not want to fix a known problem without telling you?? They would be jerks for getting it done this quickly.

Because it's not always good to admit there's a problem to fix.

I can point you to dozens of Apple Updates that have merely said "Bug fixes".

Look at iPhone OS 3.0.1's release notes for an example.

That's why I asked....please do....start pointing. A screen shot will suffice.

How is it hardware? What if the sensor itself is fine but there is a flawed connection between its recognition and the iPhone blanking out the screen... seems software to me.

Even if it is hardware, its quite possible to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor via software. I don't think its hardware personally, but even if were, I think apple would be able to fix it.

i agree it is a design flaw but a software patch could change the sensativity of it and make it a little better as mine does so far!!!

Sorry, but from what I’d read on here, the only way to fix this was to take it to Apple and get a replacement. I hadn’t heard it was possible to fix this via software, so if that’s the case, I take my comment back.

MINE IS STILL EXACTLY THE SAME! WHAT A CROCK OF **** APPLE IS.... I'VE NEVER HATED AN iPHONE YET TILL NOW. IF HE SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE PROXIMITY SENSOR TOMORROW THIS PIECE OF JUNK IS HEADED BACK FOR A RETURN!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

This, I finally broke down and went and got an iPhone 4 yesterday. Before getting the phone I thought the reception issue was the "big" issue. But now that I own one (and coming from a 3GS), I can tell you that the proximity sensor issue is a MUCH bigger issue! Let's hope we hear something good tommorow, I would hate to have to go back to my 3GS, this phone is awesome.

Did not solve antenna issue

Download and install took 37 minutes on my crappy Verizon DSL service. I don't see any difference. Removed my $36 bumper (cost + tax + shipping) and everything is still the same...no signal when covering the lower left corner.

If you guys really have issues with your phones, I would suggest that you return your phone for a full refund before the 30 day return period is up. If this update does not satisfy my antenna issue, my wifi issue (holding onto weak wifi signals and not dropping them for a stronger one), and the proximity sensor issue, Apple will be giving me my money back and setting my ATT account back to where it was. When they iron out iPhone4 (iVista4), I will surely plunk down my hard earned cash.

Cheers!

Proximity sensor is a hardware issue.

Thinking a software update fixed it is delusional.
took this from the front page:

During today's press conference. Apple's Steve Jobs revealed that they are tracking some issues with the iPhone 4's proximity sensor and expects to fix this in the next software update. We previously reported on this issue two weeks ago:

one of the most prevalent [problems] of late has been problems with the device's proximity sensors designed to sense when the phone is held up to the user's face and deactivate the device's screen, thus preventing unintended activation of buttons on the display.
Affected users found themselves accidentally ending calls or causing other unintended key presses. No word on when the software update will become available.
