Applecare is $180 with a student discount. I bought it over the phone for that, and only gave them the name of the university and nothing else.

i'm not at any college/uni and everything i buy from apple i use the EDU discount, they NEVER asked for proof.

also the discount is 8% in canada...

Depends on the school, I got just over 15% from my school discount. It did require proof though.
 
In the UK, it depends on what model you are after. The MBPs get a 15% discount, whereas the iMacs only get a 12% discount. This is both instore and online.

Yes, but as I said before online there is a 3 year warranty as standard. NOT in store. Uk students should buy online unless they want the extra phone support AppleCare provides.
