How would it NOT install if the computer IS a Mid 2010 15" or 17"? Apple says all Mid 2010 15" and 17" MBP users should install the update.
The update is either intentionally or unintentionally incompatible with certain systems. Otherwise you would be having an isolated issue which does not appear to be the case.

Mine upgraded ok

Could someone please tell me how this update was discovered? It wasn't in Software update.

Looks like they only check the following

MBP61.88Z.0057.B00.1003040836
MBP61.88Z.0057.B05.1003191134
MBP61.88Z.0057.B07.1004071225
MBP61.88Z.0057.B09.1004161215
MBP61.88Z.0057.B0B.1007091039

Based on the script inside the update. (source)

The EFI update along with 2 other updates (iWork & Security) seemed to install fine on my 15" i7 machine. During restart however, just before the EFI was flashed... I got a long beep along with rapidly flashing led for a few secs. Anyone know what this is?

That's the normal firmware update procedure, it's always been like that.

Can you post your Model ID and HD Spec. We're trying to figure out which it does install and which it doesn't.

Does not install
System:

HD:

I don't know what is the Boot ROM version before the update...

Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C

Model: Hitachi HTS545050B9SA02
Revision: PB4AC60W

I would just like to know how was this found out from the OP or anyone else that the firmware update was released? It's not in SW update, it's not even MR front page news? I just don't want to attempt to install something that wasn't in SW update. Those firmware updates generally get sent to the computer that requires the update.

lol I made a thread here but then someone pointed out that it was actually made a news item on the SECOND page that nobody reads :D

anyway I got mine in via software update so if it doesn't show up there, its probably not appropriate for your model.
btw as I mentioned above i have the 17 inch i7

It wasn't installing on my 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2010). I was able to install it by extracting the package with Pacifist and running:

sudo /usr/sbin/bless -mount / -firmware "/System/Library/CoreServices/Firmware Updates/MacBookProEFIUpdate19/MBP61_0057_0CB_LOCKED.scap".

I haven't had any adverse results (and the new Boot ROM version is showing in System Profiler). If you install it this way (and you almost certainly shouldn't), make absolutely certain that the firmware is applicable first :)

2.66 i7 here (17") on B0A and its not even showing up on software update for me.
Only difference i have is 2 Crucial SSD's and no superdrive.

Did notice that the sys requirements for it were 10.6.3 or earlier. So it might be the fact some people are on 10.6.4 that is stopping it

I don't know where you're getting that from.

"System Requirements
■ Mac OS X 10.6.4"

From the article pertaining to this update.

Mine installed perfectly normal. I have a 15" with the i7. I am on 10.6.4

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C
SMC Version (system): 1.58f15

Anyone had the guts to modify the script to recognize the B0A version as well? Tempted...

No, don't even attempt that ... this isn't a simple software update that can be rolled back using a backup. The best that could happen is it would have no effect, the worst that could happen is that it would make your MBP unbootable.

If it doesn't show up in Software Update it's not for your Mac.

Installed without any issues on my 15" antiglare highres i7 mid-2010 mbp.

I have mine connected to a 30" Samsung 305T+ and it seems to work better now. I had a lot of flicker before on the big screen but I can't see it right now anyway. (I had to replace my first dual-dvi adaptor which went crazy but the new one I had for a few weeks has been working good, and now perhaps even better).
