Egg Credit Card. Did they cancel yours?

Precisely. They keep increasing my limit and I keep calling and asking them to bring it down because I don't need it. I'm lucky in that I can now pay it off each month so don't pay interest but leaving big balances really is a mug's game.

But why bother asking them to bring it down? If you have the discipline to not use it, the higher balance can be a lifesaver in an emergency. This is even more so if one is prone to travel overseas.

I also ask my limit to be lowered. I don't like it when they raise it without asking me. To me, it's like a loan, and I don't like having a big loan, even if I plan to pay it off quickly.

Besides, I've lost my wallet once, and I don't like the idea of having a huge limit on my card if I never use it. I don't want to find out one day that someone bought a huge $4000 plasma on it or something. I know I can just report the card stolen and fight the charge, but I just don't want to go through the hassle.

I just can not believe how many people over spend them selves on credit cards. Credit cards are great tools if used correctly.

There are times in ones life when it is ok to go in to credit card debit. Lose your job and are looking for a new one it is a fine time to take on the debt because it will extended how long your savings last and less be honest if you saving hits zero credit card debit would be the least of your worries. Other one is if an emergency comes up and can not wait until later to take care of. For example car repairs, house repair, ect. They are great emergancy funds.

Credit cards are not there so one can buy more.

Now with the credit crunch world wide banks are going to tighten the rules on their cards. This means you will need a even higher credit rating to get some of the better cards. Also remember your credit rating is not everything. They all look at your yearly income to figure out how much you can handle.

Before Egg did the dirty (about two weeks ago) I phoned them up to get my limit reduced because someone had used my Barclaycard to buy a £700 TV from some internet site so I have reduced the limit on all my cards now. And the guy on the phone says: "Oh! Do you want to cancel your card? It isn't a problem..' All cheerful. I knew something was up then because I had Halifax take my card off me last year. By the way, I ALWAYS pay off my cards in full every month.

Wish I'd said yes now.

Last year someone used my card to buy a pallet of nappies from some warehouse in Croatia and install Sky TV in their house. I went round the police station and told them to go and arrest them as they could get the address from sky but they weren't interested.

I now have a vision of some large diapered baby giggling and watching sky sports as it orders huge boxes of sweeties from the net using other peoples' plastic.

I read about a guy whose credit card was stolen and used for placing bets. The thief was lucky and won. What he didn't know was that the winnings were paid directly to the credit card account :p
