Mobile phones are so 5 years ago. Virtual Reality is the future, and Apple will completely miss it.

1990 called, it wants it's predictions back...

We've been there, and done that with Virtual Reality already. Any technology that requires you to wear glasses to use it will fail. 3D TV, VR, Google Glass etc.

Nobody wants to use tech that makes them look like a dork and non-dorky wearables, VR and 3D are a long, long way from the market.

"LeShi [another name for LeEco] is focused on the internet first, and only then on software, and finally on hardware."
So buy our... car?

Well, at least you got your name out there. We all know who LeTV is. Or is it LeEco? LeShi? LeSEE?

We all know who Chinese Netflix is.

One look at the camera hump and you get a pretty good impression this CEO might not be that crazy.
when a camera hump is the main thing that people complain about, then perhaps Apple is doing things right, after all.

You completely missed the point of what I said... Apple use to make changes to keep from becoming stale. They are STALE and have been for a few years. The Apple Watch is a horrid design for example. No creativity to it at all.

Even Apple's refinement is at a glacial pace.
Yes, the Watch that won multiple design awards has a horrid design ;)

Don't even know if this has been highlighted yet or not, little late to the party, I know, but does the irony of this guy's comments not strike any of you all as profound?

I mean, coming from a Chinese company, things like open systems and freedom? Really?

I also enjoy his oxymoron comment, "a more free, ecosystem-based software." How can it give more freedom by being more ecosystem integrated? Aren't those two concepts inherently opposed to each other in the software world?

Well we shall see when Apple and them start shipping cars, at the moment they might have a concept car but that is it. Also, never heard of them so they might be big in China but they are not in the western world, Apple certainly is in China!
But Chinese government would not like its stand against privacy and security. They want everything to be known to them.

It would be really interesting to see how this would go in a long run. I mean, Apple in China.

The guy is a blow-hard, only has a concept car, nothing in actual sales and current production. LOL and he boasts of overtaking and burying both Apple and Tesla very soon? Umm ok. My 11-year old nephew can use Photoshop and CAD programs to design an "awesome" concept car.

He does have a point. The Chinese made and branded phones have surpassed Chinese made Apple branded.

"LeShi [another name for LeEco] is focused on the internet first, and only then on software, and finally on hardware."

I do love that he said this, given that he's pushing a car. Surely everyone likes to be comforted that the manufacturer of the car they drive around in puts hardware design after software and the Internet.

He may as well have said "If you crash, you're probably going to lose a limb, but at least you can still watch films and TV shows while you wait for the emergency services."

I'm sure, 10 years ago.. this guy looked up to Apple and wanted to be everything Apple (Le phone).

Here are his track record of copying spree...
LeTV TV set = Samsung
LeTV set top box = Hulu (I have one in my apartment, it can't even update the weather)
Le.com = Netflix
LeSee car = Tesla

I won't be surprised if he is coming up with a VR head set tomorrow.

Internet first? wtf does that even mean. It's when you don't have the internet you realise how useless all tech seems. If the iPhone isn't internet first i don't know what is? Hell they pretty much invented backups to the internet for phones and any man.

I don't think apple is innovating any slower than anyone else. The problem with these guys is they're too young to realise the last 10 years are not the entire history of tech and there are many more years to go. Companies come and go and the guy will go way before apple will.

No, actually, that is the American government that wants to know everything about everybody. The Chinese were not stupid enough to risk their reputation as a manufacturer for the world by implementing backdoors in their networking products - but the Americans were. (Just google for articles about the NSA firmware patches for Cisco firewalls, for example.)

At this point, the American and British governments and corporations are a greater threat to privacy and security than the rest of the world combined.

All I can conclude is both USA govt and Chinese govt are doing basically the same thing.
And neither USA nor China would publicly admit they are doing such thing.
What's worse, in China, few dare to oppose such massive surveillance unless he has direct link to someone extremely powerful/important in Party. In USA, at least citizens can argue what govt does publicly.
So, China is the worst, then USA, then UK (pretty much the same level as USA).
Bear in mind that Chinese govt is utilising "freedom of speech" in western world to raise false claim in some issues, while western world is guessing what China would do next.

This is good insight, actually. Also we need to differentiate between privacy and censorship. Brazen censorship is the only spot where the Chinese gov't is worse than most western ones. Sure, in the US we're allowed to look at and say whatever we like, as long as our gov't knows exactly who it is doing the looking and saying.

Did you read this bit?
The 43-year-old entrepreneur began his career as a tech support worker before building his own IT and mobile company, estimated to be worth around $4.8 billion…..
Could quite easily mean he has working prototpyes that are as yet to be seen. No, you couldn’t do that.

There is something Aston Martin about that car.
Who cares? Is he as experienced or as successful as Apple? No. Especially in what Apple does.

There is a big difference in privacy between the USA and China, even if both governments try to suppress and erode privacy rights.

In the USA, if the US Gov attempts to erode or infringe on privacy rights (e.g. the Apple iPhone hacker case) then the American citizens or American businesses can fight back and challenge the government in a court of law. That's why Apple was able to succeed in contesting the FBI, because it was allowed to go to court to challenge the FBI (which is a department within the Federal Government). And the FBI could have eventually lost because it never had a strong case to begin with. FBI dropped the case by finding a third party to hack the phone instead.

In China… no way in hell does anyone have any right to "contest" the Chinese Government. Good luck with that! Any citizen attempting to "challenge" the Chinese equivalent of the FBI or CIA is probably going to be a dead man in a few days.

Yes. the right to fight or no right to fight.
Undoubtedly, what Chinese govt does in here is already notorious.
And not only making you dead in moments, but also rendering you "technically" doesn't exist at all.

You know you don’t have to make millions of iPhones to be successful. I could saturate the market in what I do which in a way makes me more successful even if ultimately I sell in smaller number for less money.
If I choose and make a good product that I like as do my customers, even though there isn’t demand for it on a global scale am I unsuccessful?

Born in ’73, so not been around that long and he’s come that far. I’d say he’s pretty sucessful. Probably more than you, which qualifies him, more than you, to make statements like that.

You could say the same thing about wearing a watch or carryng a phone.
