That is such a sexy (and expensive) case... i would be just as upset if i were to drop my iPhone with or without it.

Its kinda hard to see in the photos but is there a slight lip around the front and back to protect the glass during drops? Or is it flush?

*edit* Ohh and does anyone know if this is just a standard anodizing (easy to scratch) or if it is a Type III anodizing (mil spec hard anodizing)?

When I first saw it I thought it was a silly idea. It doesn't seem to offer protection for the front and I imagine dropping the phone you'd either dent the case (looks ugly) or even damage the phone.

Not particularly good looking either...

There is a lip but it's minimal. Don't know about the anodizing though.

Looking at other reviews online it seems there are several versions of this case out. I received mine the other day and it has no sim slot cut in on the one side and the headphone jack port looks like a small raindrop.

photos / videos I see online show the headphone jack area to be a circle and then a cut out almost the full width of the case or just a circle. In addition it looks like Element has started cutting a slot in the side for access to the sim card.

What is the latest version of features for this case? How can I tell if I have the latest design from them?

Thanks, Frogracer

There are 2 Versions of the case:
Version 1 = no sim cutout.
Version 2 = sim cutout, headphone port is elongated, an I believe the logo looks to be a bit different.

Here is what Jeff Sasaki e-mailed me yesterday when I asked about the revision 2 change availability.

Hi Mike,
Yes all orders going out this week have the change.

Those are the first pictures that I have seen that make it look good.

Thanks.

He also said that in the email update on July 29.

"Dear Vapor Customer,

Last week we discovered some manufacturing issues with earlier cases that were shipped. We have stopped shipping Vapor cases to remedy the situation but are shipping again."

If it was type III anodizing, i would assume they would tell us. Something like that, which im sure most people havent heard of before would attract a larger crowd imo.

True. This is what it says on the description for their iPhone 2g (original) case:

CNC machined from billet Aluminum Type three "Hard" anodized coating Nickel plated machine screws Transparent magnetic Flip Lid. Custom Laser engraved Graphics Manufactured in the USA.

I assume hard anodizing and type 3 are the same thing. And if they used it before, i can only assume they would continues to use it.

Same design, 45 bucks. I think I'll order this one when there's some reviews on it.

Not the same design... that design is the similar to Element's first design, which showed reception issues. The second one with the elongated headphone port, sim cutout, etc. is much better. I'm not a third-party purchaser on high-price items. I'd rather get a real iPhone than a droid. I'd rather get the real case, rather than a mock. Nothing wrong with getting the one above if that's what you want, just sayin... ;)

i would love one of these, but im worried about this making the antenna problem worse.

That's awesome. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Vapor, but 1) I hate those stupid logos plastered all over the sides, 2) I don't like the v2 design with the SIM cutout and the elongated headphone port, 3) I'd rather have brushed aluminum than anodized (far easier to touch up if it gets scratched), 4) I'm not a fan of the 'grip' design - either make both sides with the grip (symmetrical) or nothing at all and 5) $80 for a case that I'll probably only use until next summer (given my iPhone purchase history) is a bit much.

This FusionWerkz case solves every one of those complaints. :D

My review

I just received the Element Vapor "007"

it is really nice looking, light and feels great. it's the nicest looking case ive ever seen for iphone4...

thats where the good news ends though:

- cant use any of my headphones with them (beats by dre studio and shure in ear buds)

- cant use my charger, my dock or my speaker with it

- doesnt have enough of a lip to cover the front...i feel it could get scratched from sitting screen down on a table

- if you drop it, you may as well not have a case on it...it's going to be toast

- i can tell that it will dent and scratch

- i havent tested it for antenna issues, i think im just going to return it. i cant justify having a beautiful case that negates some of iphone 4's functions.

hope this helps.

Couldn't agree with you more, I mentioned all of those faults in my review, aside from its faults its a beautiful case imho. I also have v1 without all the cutouts and I have no problem with reception. I recently installed the Nike+ GPS app to track my runs and have no issues with GPS tracking my runs. As far as dropping the phone, I'm usually careful but have dropped it from about 2 feet to tile flooring (phone in shirt pocket bending over to pick something up) and knock on wood it survived with no ding whatsoever. Good luck with your case, whatever you decide to do.

I want something with NO cut-outs, like the official Apple bumper case. Even that one gets crap underneath and marks up the phone's trim. I just swapped out my phone for a proximity-sensor issue and thoroughly clean my number using an electric toothbrush and running water and yet I had permanent marks one day later (sleep button, a corner, around the SIM tray, etc). I expect a thin rubberized contact surface that seals crud out and a hard exterior to absorb impact. I even want rubber plugs for the headphone and dock connectors (I usually use BT).

Should of done a YouTube review

I think you forgot something even after the edit. ;) Have != "of"

So UNhappy!!

Hey folks, new here.

So I was so happy when my vapor finally came, black with red side and the cf back, looks so wicked and lots of compliments.....

And that's where it stops.

The reception is BRUTAL with this case on. My 3G is constantly toggling on and off. When using whatsapp and email my phone is consistantly on and off the network. I'm literally ready to whip it through a window it is so frustrating.

I don't know if I just got a crappy one of the bunch, but it seriously sucks on my iphone.

I'll definitely be selling mine (if anyone is interested after my review! hahah) and getting a regular bumper of some sort so I can keep the cf back since it still looks nice and sexy. Any recommendations for a different case?? I really like the industrial sort of look. I also have a casemate (from the design your own website) and it's great, but I prefer the metal sort of style.

Blah, so disappointed.

The Karas Custom case doesn't effect reception because it's as open as they get and has Delrin connector posts, although the design is an aquired taste. I like it.

E13ctron will come out with a half Delrin case soon. I love that one.

These two and Atomic are it for no signal problems gauranteed for metal or composite cases.

Sweet thanks guys. I have seen the Karas custom one before but thought it may be a bit sharp on the edges. Has anyone got one?
