not worth it

Yeah, it's an odd pricing strategy. They really should get rid of the mini 2 I think..

Assuming one is willing to upgrade from 16GB, and if say 32GB is enough, the difference is really 150$ to get to the mini 3 64GB (no 32GB option anymore) and for that one really only gets touch id.. and the extra 32GB storage of course.

I need a new one for the GF, she's NEVER going to buy things with the mini online or need the touch ID, am I bad to just get a mini 2 with 32GB for her. ;-)

Ordered Mini 2 Last Evening

One more night of an aching wrist due to my iPad 2 and I couldn't stand it anymore... Ordered an iPad Mini 2 (32 GB) at 10:30 pm yesterday. It's being prepared for shipment.

No way would I pay for a Mini 3 that's virtually unchanged from its predecessor. Oh, my aching wrist... relief soon to come.

Good choice..

I use my mini2 more than any other electronic device at the moment.

Get rid of the mini2 ?? If anything, they should start dumping the old mini and some of the lower end iPad full size.

The Mini3 should actually be dumped while they're at it, as long as they keep the mini2 price point.

BTW, others (IIRC) are charging as low as $20 for a mem upgrade, where as Apple seems to be in love with the $100 bite.

This year was a reset. Don't expect the mini to have the same specs as the air again. Last year was a fluke, this year we are back on course, sad to say. If you want the higher specs, Apple will make sure you have to pay up for them. Which seems to have done its job seeing the people wanting a mini go with an air instead.

I'm afraid you're right. I was beyond happy that the Air and rMini shared the same specs last year. I didn't expect it. Problem being the mini is the perfect size for me. I can't use the Air. I have one. It doesn't fit my lifestyle. I won't buy an Air to get the specs because it would be wasted money. I can only hope the mini will get the bump next year when the Air sores to new heights. Then I'll be able to upgrade.

Stereo speakers

Stereo speakers have been present since the first Mini.

Ok it does have stereo speakers but, they are too close together and still have a muffled effect due to being rear facing.

I talking about proper stereo - speakers on two sides that change depending on orientation - I watch a lot of tv and movies and the sound is poor.

The whole idea of stereo sound is the separation of the left and right - sticking them together is plain dumb

Right. I always thought Mini and Air having thebexacr same specs was stupid. The Air should be a premium device and the Mini should be like all other mini devices. A lower spec cheaper version of the flagship one.

You can get the Mini 3 in gold!

Techies might be disappointed in the Mini 3, but you can bet that a bunch will end up being bought as gifts for the holiday season.

Color is actually a consideration on how well these will sell, more than tech specs that the average street person won't even bother to check or understand. They see gold, they see Touch ID, they see smaller form factor, they buy the Mini 3 if they want a smaller tablet.

Meanwhile the Air 2 is so souped up most of the techie spec chasing types will just go get it instead. And Apple actually undersold the Air 2.

On the bright side, the iPad Mini 2 is now a great buy. That's what I got. It's a bit annoying not having touch ID, but not £120 worth of annoying.

I won't be since it defeats the reason for me choosing a mini in the first place, i.e. increased portability.

The iPad Air 2 is thin and light but yep it will never be portable enough like the Mini 2 which fits in pockets, especially with the colder weather approaching and the clothing I would wear.

The specs of the Air 2 are impressive but with the current price of the Mini 2, I think I will stick with the latter which I picked up on Sunday. It is an upgrade anyway over my 1st gen.
