it's coming. Every new born child will be chipped. US is working on that. Hopefully, never happens.
Considering companies are trying to replace pet chipping with nose prints because they realize chips are too invasive, I cannot imagine chips would catch on with people.

Gaffer tape is cheaper, and you can "convert" multiple bags.

"Lack of innovation my ass” P.Shiller.

Luggage liners can be easily accessed through a zip in most quality suitcases. Just use a piece of duct tape. If you want to protect the AirTag, just wrap it in cling film or a piece of plastic and then cover with the duct tape....or am I missing something?

ETA: I do like their bike fork mount.... :)

I don't know if this topic is a brilliant marketing campaign or just a bunch of people that talk out their butt but the controversy made me click on the link even though I don't own an AirTag. That is not just tape. It's a plastic enclosure with a removable top that is attached to items with the help of some sticky tape. It's a more complex product than some people think. Not rocket science but not tape either.

Our suitcases have internal tags like a clothing care tag I slide airtag in and put two staples at each end to keep restrained/contained - then when batteries need replacing remove couple staples rinse and repeat = cheap and light

If it is going to be inside of a bag anyway (or luggage, purse, etc.), why does it need a special holder? Just throw the AirTag in the bag and then zip-up the bag.

True, but lots of people buy wallets even though they can just carry loose cash in their pocket. I can’t imagine that I’ll ever buy this product, but considering the weird, expensive products that everyone here seems to have no problem with, I’m having trouble understanding the hate-on for this thing. I’m starting to develop a Charlie Brown Christmas tree sympathy for it, and am now worried that because of all the hate I will end up buying one just to show it some support even though I don’t even have any AirTags! ;)

If the button battery in an AirTag needs replacing about every 12 months or so, then you'll also have buy these tape pocket things every 12 months or so as they can't be reused.

That's at least 29.95 per year, give or take a couple of months, if you plan on using your AirTags after the battery dies.

There's also an inherent conflict in these since you'd want it to stick so well that it's nearly impossible to remove and won't accidentally lose adhesion. But then you have to remove it when the battery in the AirTag dies.

A 2nd generation AirTag with MagSafe rechargeable batteries would be the only scenario where these tape pocket things seem reasonable.

Duct tape, with a piece of paper over the Airtag to keep it from getting sticky, does
the job as well.

It is actually a holder that has a cover that comes off to remove the AirPod. The article doesn’t have any good pictures, but it does state “Note that the AirTag can be removed from the TagVault without having to remove the TagVault from the item”, and does have a link to their site where there is a good video showing it being opened to access the AirTag. The comment about removing it seems to have confused many, but I assume that they included it in case people would be worried it might damage the item it is attached to (like the duct tape some people are suggesting), not thinking that people would read only every second sentence before commenting. And the $29.95 is for a four pack, not one.

Bought something like this made out of rubber for €2,50 last year only with a smaller footprint. Sticks to the fender of my bicycle with some gaffer’s tape added for good measure.

Waiting for some surgeon to insert the Airtag under our skin. I'm sure that'll be a winner.

Going to be a mess when you need to change the battery.

I want to put this under my vehicle 🚗 so It can be tracked at all times.

We did this at first and I considered modifying them to not ring when someone is notified an AirTag is with them (lots of YT videos on how to do this). Then Eufy came out with their "find my" trackers. It is much easier to remove the speaker from them and they are often on sale. So I switched, modified and placed them in our vehicles and close relatives vehicles. The AirTags moved to key-rings and other things.

Same. Got a new car recently and even though the manufacturer's app has a "locate my car" feature, I prefer the AirTag.

See above, AirTags (unless modified) can be located and pitched.

You're like the 5th person with this comment, proof that people don't actually read anymore.

I have the sealed screw top one for our vehicles (we share so we are able to track them). I also just bought the water bottle ones for our bikes (high theft town). These are well made.

I think one slight advantage of these is that they "STICK" on other than just dropping in a pocket. Which would make it a little harder to remove by someone stealing your stuff and that gives just a few minutes/seconds that *might be just enough time to track them. How well *stuck* they are remains to be seen of course. JMHO.

You need to read the article where it addresses this issue.
