Dont get too cocky with that XP machine. If you change internal configurrations too many times your computer will lock for attempted piracy and you will have too call microsoft and convince them to give you an unlock code
I don't think I have to worry about that :D

PC clone-

Windows XP Professional is an oxymoron.

The words "Windows" and "Professional" should never be used in the same sentence.

We all know what PC stands for..."Piece o' Crap" :D

Therefore, is that what you are a clone of?!:p

Joking aside, KeroWacK....I mean kerouac...I'm with Medea on this one.

I think you are truly an inflammatory moron, or...well, no...that's pretty much my take on you.

Just in case this is a legit cry for help though [even though you're going about it the wrong way], call 1-800-APLCARE.

Seriously, as stated previously you've got a warranty that covers 1 year of Parts & Labor and 90 day's of Phone Technical Support.

Definately get the extended AppleCare warranty. $170.00 will be less than what you'll spend on any out of warranty repair after the first year.

BTW, I've had me eMac since last June and NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!!

I even upgraded it myself [and I am in no way a computer technician] to a Superdrive eMac [which was unavailable at the time I bought my model].

CAUTION: DO NOT DO THIS!!
Yes, not knowing anything about the eMac, I successfully opened the enclosure and replaced the stock CD-RW with a SuperDrive.

Now I can fully enjoy using iDVD.:)

Kerouac-
Have some patience and definately insist that your machine get properly repaired or replaced.

I'll welcome you to the Mac Community if you don't rush to judgement and follow the appropriate steps to resolve your issue. The grass really is greener on the Apple side, when you look at Microsucks side that is purely cow dung!

But, if you don't give Apple the benefit of the doubt and decide to go with a P [ctrl-alt del] C...well...HASTA LA VISTA BABY!!:p

eMac is OK

My friend got an eMac early December and it's still perfectly OK. She loves it.

I agree with you there.

A friend of mine who used to have an overclocked Pentium 2 with hundreds of holes drilled in the case just for overclocking and it was STILL wasted by my abacus of a beige G3 has had to call Microsoft quite a few times since installing XP Pro on his 2.8Ghz P4 system. I believe from what he'd told me that significant upgrades or changes like a new CPU, overclocking the current one (so it thinks it's a new CPU), changing the motherboard, formatting/replacing the system drive or changing the RAM in some way are all reasons to have to call M$ for authorisation.

I'm not making any of this up. It's just the fact mac owner don't need to do this that people are picking up on.

The wonky eMacs have got to be just a fluke, like the whole MDD range, only it's not going to last for the entire duration of the product and force people to either buy older models or keep having to send them back for motherboard replacements and other tweaks that do nothing to solve the noise issue even if they might sort out issues with certain sound cards.

I was under the impression that the eMac was cheaply built from the way it looks and from comments in some reviews. I don't think it's all that bad though, I'd buy one myself if I didn't need at least 2 PCI slots, a second internal HD and the possibility of dual monitors sometime in the future.

Well MY friend has a system with XP on it, which used to have an Athlon 800 ghz, which he overclocked to 1 ghz, and now has an Athlon 1.4 ghz... he's also upgraded the memory and has had 4 hard drives in there which he's swapped in and out multiple times, not to mention the GeForce 4 he upgraded to recently, and he has not had to call "M$" at all... and even if he did, all it would take is a 1 minute phone call and BAM, problem solved...

Hey Deadbreakfast i almost lost it all when i saw your post, nearly fell off my chair but my wife didnt think it was that funny and neither did paul. Oh well you got me to laugh. As far as the emacs go i think this guy didnt use much tact or doesnt know much about Apple. I have the same studio display that they cramed into the emac and its ok but never thought it was great due to a glow around a button they put on the front for brighting the monitor for OS9 i guess. Being a electronics dude i tried to take it apart but have 1 dam screw that stripped so i have learned to leive with it. Think this dude can learn to live with the raster shift!! Just kidding:D

Yep and also theres a problem with the older Dell bios and XP.
My brother in law tried to go to XP and switched back to 2000 when there were soo many problems. He would switch to OS X except for the hardware expense

Just wait and you also have to talk to a live person not a recording. You know how hard that is to do with anyone let alone microsoft
