Hmm, Gawker media runs a story with the title:

and also happens to be the parent company of Gizmodo. However, they state in the article:

...

Anyone else detecting just a hint of an agenda here?

Yes,everyone. They are acting like spoiled children.Reading that slanted article makes a mockery of their claim of being "journalists".And you have to be REALLY bad to do that!

as if AT&T wasn't bad enough... maybe it'll sway Apple to find some new partners / carriers in the near future...

This just exposed email addresses. It's not like it exposed credit card numbers, medical info, drivers license numbers, or other proprietary info.

Jeez....like we couldn't guess Michael Bloomberg's email address anyway.

Give me your email address and I will make you hate your life.

If this was a breach of ATT cellular network then wouldn't the iphone be vulnerable to. Don't both devices execute protocols the same on the 3G network and both use SIM ID's as well.

What about the security risk to the millions of people with iphones. I mean if I am not mistaken ICC-ID are also embedded in scripts when people post pictures from their iphones onto web applications like Flickr and even when the post messages through Internet browsers. Like the messages you see, "This message posted from my iphone." Wouldn't these same scripts that the security company used to fetch these emails addresses, be used if they guessed ICC-ID from iphone users.

I know it's apparently a mute point now, since the breach has been fixed, but...

You're right. The appeal of the device itself has nothing to do with it. How could anyone point out the major holes in your shortsighted explanation? The nerve!

If you've been paying attention to the Apple/AT&T relationship through the eyes of their customers at all over the past three years it should be quite obvious that the iPhone is succeeding despite AT&T rather than because of it.

You are not helping yourself by continuing this.

...while it is an ATT security breach, many people will blame Apple because that's the hardware they hold in their hand. I mean, be realistic, if you have a screen issue on your iPad, are you going to contact the manufacturer of the screen or Apple?

Was that supposed to be an analogy?

"I mean come on guys, if your Apple device breaks you're gonna blame Apple, so obviously if another company has your personal info and leaks it, and you own an iPad, you're gonna blame Apple! It's only logical."

So, I buy a Dell computer, connect to the net with Comcast, and then Comcast divulges my email address on their web site. This would be covered by Gawker as "Dell's Worst Security Breach"?

Get real.

Not only that, but according to them,Apple is responsible for the security of every carrier in all 80 countries in which it sells the iPhone! They are morons.

Let's face it, Ryan Tate is just lashing out because Steve Jobs spanked him in that email exchange a few weeks ago. What is funny is he opens with "another embarrassment" for Apple. Umm... that first embarrassment he refers to is likely going to land some of his Gawker buddies in prison. Keep it up Gawker.

What I want to know is why this "Goats Security" group did not simply notify AT&T rather than getting 114k+ emails and then sharing them with the world. Shouldn't the FBI be going after them?

Not only did they retrieve a huge number of names, they shared their script for doing so with others, and they shared that list of email addresses with others. Its not suppose to to work that way. What they did is a federal crime.

But I'm sure Gawker media will tell us that before they bought this story from them for $5000 that Goats tried calling AppleCare support and talked to a Level-1 tech to report the AT&T security breach.... right?

If I read the article right "goats"found out after all that had been done by others and simply verified it.At least that's what I came away with...

Yeah, let's see...

Troll: "Hey Steve...how's that AT&T exclusivity deal working out for ya?"

Me: Well, considering the iPhone has been a home-run success and has significantly impacted the company positively from a financial standpoint, it seems to be working out just fine.

That is not what you said GameCockmac. Do not misquote yourself! I like a good discussion but you can't change what you said.

Close enough.Substantially the same.

I would answer"pretty good, but could be better. But considering that EVERYONE turned us down except ATT we agreed to an exclusivity period, and a deal's a deal. But take heart,it's not forever."

Are you aware what could have happened to Apple's stock price and market cap if the iPhone had not been introduced on AT&T exclusively?

Fixed that for you.

No one else would touch it.People sure have short memory's!

Are you aware what has happened to Apple's stock price and market cap since the iPhone was introduced on AT&T exclusively?

I'd say it's working out pretty well.

As if to say the stock would suffer if they open it up and sell (on the conservative side) 4-6 million more iPhones in the first quarter with a new carrier? Doubtful. There's too many non-AT&T people who want iPhones. The exclusivity should and will end. Besides Apple is pissed at the data plan changes announced by AT&T. Was a slap in the face considering it's those same plan offerings that got them the iPad deal in the first place.

I hate to say this folks....

This is not the first time or the last where personal data is hacked over the internet.

Whether you like it or not, your personal data (credit cards, medical history, purchase history, salary, etc) is contained in hundreds, if not thousands, of databases that are accessible by thousands, if not millions, of employees who can access this data, legally or not.

Welcome to the Internet Age.

Gawker media...butt hurt from Apple since 2010.

Clearly dishonest headline for Gawker. That s it I am not reading their crap anymore. And for you ATT...**** YOU. Its about time the ATT exclusivity ended

Dear Gawker go off and die i will not miss you when you get closed down by apples investigation ;)

The same applies to the passcode "hack" which was simply that you could copy media and other non-personal data with a USB connection on a linux machine. Again something you can do with most (but not all) smartphones.

not what I was talking about. All you have to do was click emergancy call the double tap home and your in the phone. Pretty big prob don't you think?
No wonder you ignored my question to you.

I never saw it

I knew you wouldn't be able to find even one example where Apple had a security breach that led to the info of 100,000+ folks stolen. All you can point to are cases where something theoretical could have gone wrong, but no stats of what did happen.

And yes, you are also wrong because those stories you cite were hyped beyond reality because every time there is a chance to hurt Apple the media jumps on it.

K so every phone with a pass could be bypassed by a 3 year old. This doesn't consern you?

The fact is anything can be hacked easly no matter what and you can't do anything about it. The bigger the target the bigger the chance. If vz had any idevice the same would happen to them. It is unstopable. All they can do is fix it fast

Still forced to ignore my point because you know you got caught. Your original complaint was that the media called out AT&T for this, so why didn't the media call out Apple every time they had done something similar. Several of us have now pointed out to you that this has never happened to Apple where 100,000+ customer records were compromised. And sure enough, you can't find even a single example of it actually happening.

That's why the media never reported it. It hasn't happened yet.

Defamation investigation anyone?

Yeah exactly. Perhaps he should join Gawker in a potential defamation law suit.

Never said it was apples fault. Yes it was AT&T but again it is unstopable. Some one can hack this site and get your email. Also every phone was able to be unlocked even with a pass. Again pretty big problem. Almost as big as this. And the SMS hack is the same. Yes apple fixed it last second but there are other ones that couldbe release any second. People will blame both AT&T and apple cause they don't know what's happening. They will point the finger at anyone. And no nothing like this happened to apple yet. But applehas it's share of problems. And what I was saying was VZ will be hacked too. Which is why this gives apple no reason to swich.

(typed on my iPhone. Sorry for any gramer/spelling errors)
