I do agree that this could happen with any network provider, so when the iPhone finally is available on Verizon or whoever, the problems won't just go away.
If this was a breach of ATT cellular network then wouldn't the iphone be vulnerable to. Don't both devices execute protocols the same on the 3G network and both use SIM ID's as well.
What about the security risk to the millions of people with iphones. I mean if I am not mistaken ICC-ID are also embedded in scripts when people post pictures from their iphones onto web applications like Flickr and even when the post messages through Internet browsers. Like the messages you see, "This message posted from my iphone." Wouldn't these same scripts that the security company used to fetch these emails addresses, be used if they guessed ICC-ID from iphone users.
I know it's apparently a mute point now, since the breach has been fixed, but...
It would've been nice if you had highlighted his mistake. I had to read his entire post just to find the word 'mute'. JC!I believe you mean it is a moot point.
Sorry, but it is a pet peeve of mine.
People willingly upload their pictures, movies, personal info (age, b-day), interests, hobbies, friends names, etc on their Facebook Page for the whole world to see.....yet when this happens, "hey!...that was my personal info!".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this article (and others) implies that the 114,000 represents 100% of ALL 3G iPad people. If that is correct, we can deduce that as of a few weeks ago when Apple claimed their 1 millionth sale of iPads in the USA, that 886,000 were NOT 3G (1,000,000 minus 114,000).
So either Apple is selling roughly 8x more non-3G units in the USA, or maybe I would tend think that Apple isn't selling as many iPads as they claim.
I really would have pegged the percentage of sales at about 50/50...not 86/14. Granted WIFI is pretty abundant these days...but so is ATT's 3g. On the flip side (the ATT side), if Apple/ATT has only sold 15% of all iPad sales on the ATT network (114,000) out of 1million, ATT should be pretty unhappy about that percentage...time to lower the rates Mr. ATT?
Anyone else agree or maybe have more information?

He is in fact quite right:You are not helping yourself by continuing this.
You're right. The appeal of the device itself has nothing to do with it. How could anyone point out the major holes in your shortsighted explanation? The nerve!
If you've been paying attention to the Apple/AT&T relationship through the eyes of their customers at all over the past three years it should be quite obvious that the iPhone is succeeding despite AT&T rather than because of it.
Yeah, let's see...
Troll: "Hey Steve...how's that AT&T exclusivity deal working out for ya?"
Me: Well, considering the iPhone has been a home-run success and has significantly impacted the company positively from a financial standpoint, it seems to be working out just fine.
Now you can call that anecdotal all you like, but it's also a simple statement of the facts on the ground. Troll asked a loaded (stupid) question, troll got his answer. Game over.
Give me your email address and I will make you hate your life.
Indeed.. It was the monkey not the organ grinders fault.
Did you read the article?
They were able to come up with a script to guess at IMEI numbers and get email addresses.
Nothing anywhere said they were able to get all iPad 3G user email addresses with this.
Winner for BEST THREAD POSTCease and desist e-mails to AT&T CEO anyone?
Notice all his Steveness (peace be upon him) said about At&t is there 'generosity to promote all customers who would be eligible for upgrades in 2010, to be okay by launch'.I would say it's a pretty good bet that AT&T is in the shithouse with Apple after this fiasco.
Exclusivity will end this year, I am certain of it.
The security breach is lame, but I've already stopped buying Apple products that depend on ATT. The iphone in NYC is terrible. The iphone4 would probably push me right over the edge. The ipad looks great, but why bother? Apple and ATT need to scale down all their claims and charge prices for the experience and service that they actually deliver.
Close enough.Substantially the same.
I would answer"pretty good, but could be better. But considering that EVERYONE turned us down except ATT we agreed to an exclusivity period, and a deal's a deal. But take heart,it's not forever."
