I don't hate AT&T at all, I get a nice 20% discount on service from my work and, for my area, their coverage beats Verizon. (ie: I have no coverage at ALL on Verizon at my job, hence why I switched. It's a Verizon deadzone).

But that aside, it's a joke to think that they didn't do this because their exclusivitiy is ending. It has to end sometime, and Apple would be stupid not to offer their phone on other carriers. If they can sell millions on AT&T imagine what opening up to Verizon or TMobile could do for their bottom line. $$$$$$, it's gonna happen, and soon.

Yeah, got the same e-mail from the same guy as the OP.

This just screams end of exclusivity to me. I can't think of another time AT&T has done this...just because.

Received the exact same letter a couple hours ago, except it was signed by:

Rob Forsyth
Vice President and General Manager

Even though I'm pretty satisfied with AT&T as it stands now, I hope these are not just empty words.

Verizon is not getting the iPhone any time soon.. So keep dreaming folks.

AT&T is simply letting people know they continue to invest huge amounts of money into their infrastructure.

Some of you stupidly want to think they are just lying about it.

+1

AT&T's desperation started since the Blackberry Torch release. They know they're losing the exclusivity agreement so now they're playing catch up compared to other carriers. If i were you, I'd stay on verizon and wait for another refresh of the iPhone4 come January/February.

^^ i'll bet money on it that its happening.

I'll take that bet!

I feel so left out.

I've been an AT&T customer for probably about 15 years or so, and did not receive said email.

*sigh*

I guess they don't appreciate my being a customer. :(

Take it for whats worth but I work in a building where AT&T has a tower on the roof. They have been here working for about 2 weeks. They are running new fiber optic cable and upgrading servers. I asked the job foreman what all the work was for and he told me AT&T has plans to upgrade every tower in the city due to backlogs and laggy service.

I have no issues with the coverage as of now. I tried verizon for one week and returned the phone because the service was so bad.

It's a blast to watch the AT&T haters......listen to them piss and moan and whine. It will be great when the iPhone is on another network or two and they all can just go! Then the AT&T network will be better with the excess baggage gone! My experience has been perfect for 20 years...and will be even better!

+1, no complaints here also, traveled and used my AT&T phones in many States w/ virtually no problems... competition will be nice, less data users on AT&T and maybe more competitive prices! It would be a win-win for me w/ no moving from my network. :)

I believe this is the "We lost our exclusivity agreement with Apple so please don't leave us if another carrier gets the iPhone" rant.

Don't like AT&T's service, don't hate it however, in the DC area, I wish it could be a lot better than what it is right now. Too many dead spots....
