Ok.

As someone who suffered from terrible terrible acne as a younger teen, if Doxycycline isn't helping you, you need Accutane. End of story.

When you take Accutane, it'll get slightly worse (horrifying I know) for a month, and then get better. Most people are completely cured within a year. I was not so lucky and was on it for more than a year and still have the occasional break-out, but it's not noticeable.

Take Accutane with food. This is not just a 'recommendation'. You will throw up if you do not take it with food. You might even throw up if you don't have enough food.

But it works. Nothing else does.

Yet another vote for Accutane. I'm your age, and I started taking 40mg 1.5x daily in March, and I quit by Memorial Day. I already noticed a difference after the first day. The only downsides to it are that it's a pill, it gives you chap lips 24/7, and it's pretty expensive. I know the recommended dose is 6 months, but since my dad's a doctor, my medical treatment is much more informal and I only had to go on it for two months. It's truly a miracle, and I still don't have severe acne.

I'd also recommend Retin-A. It's a less concentrated version of Accutane, but in a face cream form. That's what I use now, and it works wonders if you have light-moderate acne. Unfortunately, you'll also need a prescription for this (thank you trial lawyers.)

Also, my mom got me this Neutrogena stuff. It's sort of makeup (don't worry!), but it also softens your skin. I'd also look into that.

Whatever happens, good luck.

+1

ive been using accutane for about 2 months and it really does work wonders...

just get a good moisturizer :D

i was told too much dairy was bad for acne (cheese, milk & eggs). my doctor put me on a course of Anti-Biotics when i was 18 for my acne and told to cut back on dairy (but not too much) and it cleared up in a month

I never had it awful, just normal teen face stuff I'd say. Still though, I found that stopping having chocolate, crisps, cola (pepsi/coke/whatever) and junk (burger king, mcdonalds type stuff) helped some.

Yea I hope it's skim milk at least.

2%. :p

I looooove milk.

So far my face has been getting a little better but is still kinda bad. I will post pictures in a couple days when i get the digital camera back. I'm kinda scared to post pictures of myself on the internet though!

it was suggested earlier...but if you haven't already, cut ALL chocolate.
I love dark chocolate, I have zero pimples.

I'd recommend trying some LUSH products !
Lush is awesome but expensive. I forget what it was I used when I did have pimples (it was some facial cleanser thing, angels on bare skin? or something), I loved it. I love their bath bombs and soaps now.

Anyway, a first vote for hormonal contraceptives. The only reason I don't have any pimples on my face right now is because of that. At the end of a cycle or when I stop they pop up in droves, and I'm unfortunately 19.

It is a way more logical alternative to the likes of accutane if you are female.

I really don't have a lot of money for those expensive herbal treatments and stuff, and I am really scared of taking Accutane...

I am just going to continue washing my face for a week or so.

If you're really scared of taking Accutane, ask for a prescription for Retin-A. It's basically Accutane in a skin cream, and it works well if your acne isn't too severe. It also isn't too expensive, and the only reason why it's a prescription is because of trial lawyers.

accutane seems scary but its only really harmful to the kids that have had depression before:)

if you do decide to take it its one one of the best decisions you'll ever make

Accutane with a big glass of water, ;) exfoliation and believe it or not moisturising should sort you out. (and you'll probably need it with accutane)
I've never had terrible skin but I found that it was better when I kept it clean, (but not overly so, just twice a day should suffice, and scrub at night) and used a simple moisturiser like Eurcerin kept it most clear. It's been good ever since. You can't always trust your skin to make its own oils so provide them for it and it often helps.

I know this is kind of a random question, but, I read somewhere that milk makes you get pimples. I drink like 10 glasses a day. Should I stop? :D

Get castrated. The less testosterone you have, the less likely you're gonna get acne. Give it a shot, it really works.

Actually, what vniow said may be true, although really, it's all due to pores being clogged, and a certain bacteria on your skin, which is why certain creams (benzoyl peroxide (sp?)), which kills this bacteria, work so well.

Anyway, if it is related to hormones, then drinking milk may not be a good idea. It messes up certain hormone levels. Soy milk actually increases estrogen levels (or at least lowers the testosterone:estrogen ratio in men), which then may help your acne.

I have been using the proactive solution since about August 1st, and I am noticing a little bit better skin. I still have a little bit of back problem so am going to go back outside tomorrow! :p

i'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned: acne.org

i've been using it for 4 years now and it's worked out well (just make sure to moisturize). it's the same proactiv benzoyl peroxide but at 2.5% and of course much cheaper

Guys, Proactiv actually starting making my skin extremely red and I went to my doctor, he said it was actually helping with the acne but I was actually having allergic reactions on my skin. I have been taking doxycycline and retin-a cream for about a month and a half, hasn't really helped.

I posted a thread here incase you guys are interested, has pictures of me: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/acne-Pictures-t212826.html

Use dial hand soap, gold seal. and drink as much water as you do anything else. Work out for 30 mins. on a treadmill. that is actually more popular among celebrities then any other treatment. It's simple and cheap. Some use expensive spot treatments, but you can just use rubbing alcohol.

Enjoy!
