You don't get malware if you know what you're doing. I've used torrents for years on end on Windows PCs, and never got an infected PC. You're more likely to get viruses through crap software like Java or Flash which are full of security holes, than torrented software.

This thread seems to have made a 90 degree turn. I don't see where any of this torrent talk helps with or is related to trim on Leopard.

Not everyone with an interest in torrents reads a thread about trim on Leopard. Starting a new thread to argue / teach / discuss the use of torrents seems like it would be beneficial for everyone.

Bumping an old thread not to create a new one with the same subject, and to bring the thread back to what it was supposed to be about (SSD Trim on Leopard), rather than existing and non-existing issues of torrenting and why one should use Snow Leopard rather than Leopard when on Intel:

Are there clear solutions to this that were found out since? Like some custom program/app etc..

If not, then I'd like to discuss on mitigating the issue: I heard, I think from Kingston's website once upon a time, that if you keep a good percentage of your SSD partition free with empty space, it will perform better and last longer, with Trim enabled or not. But also that even if Trim is not used, that can perfectly work out, but only if you keep said free, empty space even bigger. One question is: does anyone know the exact percentage? 20% of the SSD partition should be free on Leopard (and Tiger)? 10%? 15%? I think the percentage may also vary depending on SSD size, no? (Whereas the bigger, the bigger the percentage.)

I also found the following on StackExchange (https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/177010/ssd-and-ppc-with-leopard-10-5-8), posted in 2015:
"You can look here[1]. The members of this thread seem to agree that writing 1s (FF) to unused space by the OS allows the GC on the disk to do its job, effectively the same as TRIM.

Unfortunately they devolve into insulting each others' knowledge of SSDs and Mac chipsets in general before doing anything useful. One of the commenters claimed there was a utility to write FF to unused blocks for PPC macs, but I've been unable to find it.

So, did anyone come across any software solutions of late? Maybe something that does what is said could be done on that StackExchange post?

One thing I do know is some SSD brands have more aggressive Garbage Collecting than others, when TRIM is not available. (Which, to my understanding, is not literally as good as having TRIM, but is a very welcome feature.)
