With grateful thanks for support from the OCLP hardware fund, I now have a Radeon VII and I think I’ve got a solution to the Radeon VII GOP problems.

Additional research into PCI IO cache settings [following up on previous research on main mapped memory cache settings, which led to GopBurstMode but didn't fix the Radeon VII] and some feedback from Vit and Martin Lo has convinced me that this is really looking like a bug in the Radeon VII's GOP implementation, not a bug in OpenCore.

Then what? AMD Linux drivers are OpenSource, so it might be possible to find some info there, or it might be possible to reverse-engineer the GOP driver itself, to try to work out what setting AMD haven't set that they should have. (It still looks like the video memory cache settings are wrong, but it no longer looks like this is something fixable at the UEFI level.)

But before that, maybe there is a chance that there is another Vega 20 GOP implementation out there which already works? Apart from the different Radeon VII BIOS versions available, there is one unverified Radeon VII Pro BIOS available (at least, only one that I've seen), and it is a few months newer than the non-Pro BIOSes. So first things first, maybe it's worth trying to combine the UEFI GOP from the Radeon VII Pro BIOS with the legacy BIOS section of the non-Pro BIOS, and … well, it just works! With OpenCore and EnableGop. DirectGopRendering and EnableGopDirect are even no longer needed.

I’m not quite sure what AMD were playing at here - it at least looks very much like they knew something else needed fixing, but only fixed it in the Pro GOP version - but hey, finally, here is what it seems they should have released all along.

You can just flash this to your card with amdvbflash, as normal, and then add EnableGop to your machine's firmware as per the instructions on p1. You no longer need DirectGopRendering in OpenCore.

@ZNDK - Based on these results I think your best bet for your similar problem is to try upgrading your AMD RX Vega 56 video BIOS - especially since your card already seems to have worked for other users. Failing that, you could possibly try the same trick of taking the GOP from the Pro version of your card and using it to replace the GOP which you currently have.

NB This is the BIOS from my PowerColor Radeon VII, with just the GOP replaced, as described. Received wisdom is that all these cards are the same, so in theory this should work on any Radeon VII, but backup your video BIOS first, and worst case scenario be prepared to reflash your card with a hardware clip. Success or failure results welcome.

I've seen the above post and I've already flashed, in the past ,a Radeon RX 580 following https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s.2378942/page-25?post=32671327#post-32671327.

However, following same method, I can't see the linux GUI GUI with the Radeon VII I tried all display ports and HDMI. I can boot to MAC OS X Seqoia using OCLP as you can see in the image:

GeekBench and Novabench ran successfully so card is good.

However I updated the Mac OS X and now I can't boot to apply root patches I don't see an image. I'll try to place RX 580 again apply patches and swap the GPUs, but then can I flash it on Mac OS X? I searched and from what read only linux/windows.

Sorry if this is a something I should know by heart, I've searched wuite a bit, but I am not sure what to try next :/

Also on videoProc says I don't have hardware accelaration for h264 and h265 I think that will affect video edditing, is this somethign known? Is there a fix?

Can someone help me? From previous replies there's people that were able to use RX 590 and from what I can tell RX 590 (device ID 67DF) is supported on MAc OS.

I could use this method before to flash my RX 580 with eGOP (I only needed to use it alone on PCI 1, no other pci cards or boot drive). With radeon VII I could use a GPU on slot 1 and another on slot 2 and was able to flash a rom with eGOP to my Radeon VII.

Both I could not see the mac os boot menu but would end up booting with OCLP (I haven't applied eGOP on OCLP I am sure).

Radeon RX 590 does not fit on slot 2 with Radeon RX 580 on slot 1 (or vise versa).
 
Tired RX 590 on slot 2 with a pcie "extender" same issue it fails the "tests" I tried with both Bios switch positions
 
Ok so what worked:
RX 580 (or already flashed eGOP card) on slot 1
RX 590 on slot 2 (with BIOS switch set closest to the outputs)
Display cable on display port further away from HDMI and directly (no KVM) connected to display.
I was able to flash it that way using:

There shouldn't be any drawbacks for Windows, it's just using a better GOP implementation - for effectively the same card, and also from AMD - nothing macOS or OpenCore specific.
 
@jaksemasch - Here are the .efi files extracted from the .ffs files in that thread. (They disable ForgeUefiSupport, which might be what is going on in your machine. One also disables GopBurstMode, but I don't think that will be the issue.) It's possible (depending on your GPU) that they won't give you a Mac boot screen, but will work in the PC: that would still be interesting to know. Or it's possible they will work for you and give both a Mac boot screen and successful boot in your PC. Could you test both and let me know the results? Thanks.

With EnableGop_1.4-min i was able to patch the Powercolor Red Dragon 4 Gig RX570 GPU to have a bootscreen with Option key.
With *min2 there was the same error as with EnableGop_1.4.efi from opencore
that says Problem with 128 k limit and patching stopped there.

@Mark1966 also asked (PM) whether it would be a good idea to link to Post #1,089 as a source of smaller files for getting round the AMD size limit. The files in that post are EnableGop version 1.4, but smaller, whereas the recommended small file on p.1 is EnableGop version 1.1. The trouble with using those modified 1.4 versions as the general purpose 'smaller file' is that they are smaller because they disable ForgeUefiSupport. This is to avoid a boot hang with EnableGop on a so far very limited range of hardware (this is the only device reported so far), but it also means the modified driver only supports about half the normal number of GPUs (because about half of GPUs require ForgeUefiSupport), which is the main reason I have kept those versions on the downlow up to now.

@Ausdauersportler told me that V1.1 of EnableGOP.efi is the smallest one. All later Versions got some bytes bigger, without much things more to force in ROM.

So using V1.1 or *-min out of post #1.089 from #Bmju may do the job without stopping because of 128k limit. Vesion *-min2 out of Post 1,089 gave me also error with 128k limit.

So you may give it a try and maybe it also works for you when trying to insert it in your GPU ROM to have MacOS boot picker.

You may also try to shrink the vga bios: In some cases, if you need only a small amount of unused bytes (for example, if the last block is holding only few bytes, but that will reserve a full 0x200 block), you can try to exchange tables with smaller ones.
 
I believe, however, that most people who seek help here are barely able to manage the vbinsert.sh.

Just the statement that someone can shorten something there, most people won't know what to do with, because they probably don't know exactly how to do it.
For that, there would have to be a precise instruction for it somewhere.
But even then, many will still fail to get it to work.

I already spent a long time trying to get the vbinsert.sh thing to work. For that, I also had to look for help with the path: issue somewhere else. The first result then led to the 128k limit, which meant that nothing had worked yet.

I think that many people will feel the same way when they try to insert EnableGOP.efi into their GPU ROM.

I'm working on a Mac Pro 5,1 (2x Xeon X5690) and ran into a black-screen issue with EnableGOP1.4 on a Turing-based card. Macschrauber suggested to post the case here...

Setup:
Mainboard ROM with EnableGOP1.4 flashed (reconstructed CK0410DVH2P_144.0.0.0.0 + EnableGOP14)
Test GPU: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 Founders Edition (TU102 reference design, P/N 699-5G150-0510-506E), unmodified factory VBIOS
Production GPU (works fine): AMD RX 6600 XT with MacVidCards Mac-EFI flash

Result:
With the Quadro installed and EnableGOP1.4 active, the system chimes and boots normally (no hang, no hardware fault) — but the display stays black throughout, including at the OpenCore picker stage.
Tried with and without ProvideConsoleGop=false in config.plist — no change in either case.
Reverted to the non-GOP14 ROM, RX 6600 XT works as before (confirms the board itself is fine).

Question:
From what I understand from the thread, EnableGOP should provide pre-boot GOP for a PC GPU with unmodified factory VBIOS (one of the three documented paths to a working picker). The Quadro RTX 6000 should fit that case, but stays black.
Is there a known issue with Turing-generation cards and EnableGOP — e.g. an HII (UEFI 2.3.1) requirement that Apple's EFI 1.10 doesn't satisfy? Or is there a way to test in isolation whether the card can even draw the picker via BootKicker.efi, independent of the rest of the OC config?

Happy to provide more details (board ROM version, full config.plist, etc.) if useful. Thanks for all the work on EnableGOP — it's been essential for getting the RX 6600 XT working 😆👍

Purely a knee-jerk sort of suggestion but have you tried all the available video-out sockets (DP, HDMI?) just in case it makes a difference?

Nvidia 2xxx cards did not require HII and even worked with pre-boot configuration support from factory.

Did you tried Titan RTX firmware instead? This post have the full procedure to cross-flash the firmware:

22MB is not WORKS. No hardware acceleration.
