GoDaddy is the worst hosting service there is. I can't wait to get off this crap.

So sick of dealing with this!

Anyone have any recommendation for the best hosting service?

Is there any service thats unanimously regarded as the best?

Most shared hosting companies will have similar issues if you're hosting anything beyond a simple HTML site. Do the math: cost of the server + maintenance / $50 ($3-5/month *12). The only way to make it work is to have hundreds of sites competing for the resources.

You get what you pay for. A VPS may be more headache that you want to take on, but they can be had for $25-30/month. Otherwise look for more 'robust' packages, and expect to pay more than $3-5/month.

Dropped Godaddy years ago. Been through several hosting companies. InMotion has been stable for three years and has ftp accounts and streaming video.

I use network solutions.

Network Solutions now offers a variety of other Internet-related products, including three different Unix- or Windows-based shared hosting packages.

All three plans – Standard, Advanced and Pro – come with support for 100 domain pointers and sub-domains, POP3 and SMTP email, 500 megabytes of email space, one autoresponder and three aliases per email account, unlimited email forwarding, spam and virus protection, WebMail, FTP access, ImageCafe site creator, file manager, log file access, Server Side Includes, CGI-BIN, cron jobs, shared SSL, osCommerce shopping cart, password-protected directories, AWStats, search engine submission, a 60-day free trial for Constant Contact’s E-Mail Marketer and Yahoo! search and Google AdWord credits.

All plans also feature a variety of applications – including counter, FormMail, polls, guestbook, message boards, blogs, wiki and photo gallery – and support PHP 5, Perl, FrontPage, Python, Zend libraries and Ruby on Rails.

I hope that helps.

iPage.com - They are very mac friendly, their hosting is fast and cheap, I have had great success with their support, and the e-mail accounts they give you are IMAP (an absolute must for me).

For the past few years now I have been using GoDaddy for various things but I was more content than happy with them. I ended up using the site primarily as a personal hosting site for my pictures and it even feels slow for that most of the time. I have never really had an issue with their customer service but their site is a nightmare. I swear by the time I figure out how to get where I am going I have 30 windows open and forget what I was doing in the first place.

After browsing youtube earlier I saw a 50% off coupon for InMotion and just picked up a year of hosting for $60 off. I can't even access my site yet and I am already happier with them than I was GoDaddy. Everything is more responsive, I only ended up having 2 tabs open and it made sense that way, and I don't have to jump through flaming hoops while on a unicycle to get to my cpanel.

I've used JustHost, Black Sun and GoDaddy. I didn't hate GoDaddy, but their Exchange mail services just suck. My email host would consistently refuse their mail because there were too many forwards before it got there - looks like spam in other words. JustHost offers unlimited space for web and mail, is very cheap, has all the usual cPanel bells and whistles like canned CMS from Joomla, Drupal, etc., a bunch of website builders, and straight-up ftp if that's what you want. MySQL and other rDBMS, etc., etc. I found them by typing "10 best web hosts" in google, and searching through other people's top-ten lists. Don't know about their tech support or bandwidth so much, but they haven't had an outage since I began using them two years ago. Black Sun have also been an excellent host for us, but not as cheap as JustHost.

Bonne chance!

Happy Dreamhost user here, since 2008 or so. I've heard good things about A Small Orange for many many years but have never had a chance to try them.

+1 for dreamhost. They are scaleable to any sized website, just use the slider for more dedicated memory if your site slows down. They offer unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage space and very reasonable prices. Email can be tricky setting up on thunderbird, but thats the only hitch i've encountered so far. I've used various hosts in the past and continue to use other hosts for non-mission critical applications, but dream host is the one i've been most happy with so far.

Linode is the best VPS company out there. Great prices, great service and excellent server specs, conveniently located in various locations around the world.

However, for media storage, you're best off to use a cheap file storage solution like Amazon S3

If you aren't a Linux admin, dont' worry, Linode has an extensive library of howto guides that will get you running in a weekend (or less).

I don't host with a hosting company (use my own server), but I have bought all my Domains from GoDaddy because I respect Bob Parsons.

I have used ASO which I liked very much and then went on to 1&1, no problems with them so far but some people don't like them. A friend pulled everything from 1&1 and went over to Host Gator which works very well with her Joomla sites where as 1&1 didn't play very well.

If I were to do it all over again I would go back to ASO or try Host Gator. I have recommended ASO to my girlfriend and others. If I can get a close stat as to how much bandwidth I'm going through a month I might jump back to ASO by March/April. So far I haven't had any issues using Transmit to upload my sites, nice and easy like it should be and advanced when and if needed for ftp.
