My original model is still going!
Every generation had faulty consoles;<snip>
It's just too bad the 360 has a better library than the PS3, as well as XBL being superior, otherwise I would just stick to my PS3.
Every generation had faulty consoles;
Amigas were prone to faulty memory chips and needed replacements
NES, Master System and Mega Drive had connectors that could wear out the game carts
PS1 had the whole faulty laser problem...
... As did the PS2 which resulted in a class action lawsuit.
The PSP had the dead pixel epidemic.
In rare cases the Wii had GPU overheating problems and the PS3 had the yellow light of death (ours caused by its power unit)
The DS Lite had the hinge problem.
...And the iPod Touch/iPhone stands victorious! 😀
why do you have a spare??
besides the whole case craks, light leaks, silent switch button falling odd, etc lol
And the fact that its not a console or a portable gaming console... 😉🙄
Console games are supposed to be bug free (the online updates are a lazy approach to bad QA) and the consoles are supposed to work without fail.
This is a little off-topic rant, but do people remember a time when our gaming machines had no internet connectivity, games didn't require 250mb of updates before playing, and brand new games ( a la MW2) didn't require daily updates for a week. WTF.

i HATE ps3 updates
if i dont play it for a while i have to
1) do a freaking system upgrade
2) do a freaking game update
it will take me a good 15-20 min before i can actually start playing
usually i lose my interest and just do the updates and then turn it off again only to repeat the cycle

It finally happened...
My 2005 launch xbox 360 FINALLY died on me. Half way through a game of MW2, boom, frozen screen. Red rings.
Ugh.
Good thing I have a spare system (lulz)
Manufactured 10-18-2005
*sigh* damn you MS.
Serious question: How long were you expecting it to last?
Since Xboxs and PS3s are basically stripped-down computers, which break down over time, I'd assume they wouldn't last THAT much longer than a typical PC. It depends, I guess, on how much you play it, right?
To me, 4 years seems pretty impressive, especially for a launch system!
