I had Android for over a year with 4 different high end phones and I have to say I am happier with the iPhone 4:

- Bluetooth keyboard support
- Better screen resolution
- Netflix app that streams
- Better app market (especially gaming)
- Navigon GPS app that I prefer over GMaps Navigation
- Better battery life
- Best camera in the business
- Not as fragmented
- Better resale value when selling on craiglist/ebay

Never said it will. However, getting an erection because some "new" device is coming out, no matter who makes it, is a sad commentary on the mental stability of some people.

He may not know what the word erection means. He has a new phone, not a girlfriend. ;)

I just recently upgraded my iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4, and I have to say this Samsung Galaxy S2 looks incredible.

Probably the only knock I can think of is the phone isn't LTE I don't believe, just HSPA+. Still nice, and not like the iPhone 4 is LTE (and likely the iPhone 5 won't have LTE either), but still. I love the screen on the Galaxy S2, the size of it is awesome (iPhone is a little small for my tastes), and the technical specs are incredible.

One other knock, at least for me, is Android, and the Android marketplace for apps. Most of the apps I've seen on iOS look much better than the Android ones, and seem to be higher quality/less bugs. Also, since I've had an iPhone over 3 years now, I'm pretty invested in iOS and it would be annoying to have to replace/re-purchase all my apps, games, etc.

I also like the user interface of iOS better as well. Seems easier and smoother. Widgets however on Android are pretty awesome, but overall I think the user experience with the iOS user interface is better.

Overall though, this Galaxy S2 is incredible. It's by far the best phone out there, assuming it comes here soon. I read a U.S. launch for this phone could still be a few months out. Droid Bionic is coming soon too, with LTE and amazing specs as well, so will be interesting to see how that plays out in the lineup as a competitor.

Right now though, I'd say this Samsung Galaxy S2 is about the only phone out there that would even have me considering moving from my iPhone 4.

Then you must've been extremely unimpressed by the iPhone's 480x320 screen during 2007-2010, while other high end phones were VGA+.
that's different. if apple did it, it's un-reproachable. ;)

they came back with a vengeance, though, with the retina display. to bad they didn't take the opportunity to bump the screen size up to respectable dimensions while they were redesigning the whole damn phone.

My Galaxy S2 arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm very impressed. So much so that my iPhone 4 is on eBay right now.

I've had all the iPhones and a fair few androids (Hero, Desire, DesireHD). Each time I've ended up back with the iPhone. This time the Galaxy S2 is in a different league to the other androids. The build quality (although in parts plastic) seems top notch. No creaks etc, zero lag watsoever and the screen is awesome, and that's coming from the retina display.

Overall this combinded with my iPad is the best combination out there for me right now.

the point I was trying to make is no phone will have an impact on someone's life like you suggested the sgs2 should do to warrant a purchase. you were just being a hater and all haters whether they be apple or android are annoying cuzzz

oh lawdy lawd you know what I have and don't have now?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; nb-no) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

I cant believe some people. You act more childish then my 5 year old sister.

"i heard the galaxy s3 is coming next week"

Samsung galaxy s: june 2010
Samsung galaxy s2: may 2011

Very similar to apple and the iphone.

I just dont get people needing to defend their brand. Like they worked for them.

And saying the screen is **** before trying etc. I pity some people in here. I love the iphone but i also love the sgs2.

Some people. Sigh

TouchWiz catches a lot of flack. To be honest, besides the fruity/cartoony looking app launcher, TouchWiz makes Android better in every other way.

-WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS/Silent/Rotation toggles in the dropdown
-dialer with smart dial, which is still missing in most modern smartphones stock (iOS, Android)
-swipe contact left/right to txt/call
-industry leading video codec support
-very nice camera app
-music player with Dolby 5.1 Virtual Surround

The launcher does suck. The first thing I did when getting my SGS was replacing the TouchWiz launcher with Launcher Pro (kinda like getting a new PC and downloading Google Chrome/FireFox as soon as you boot it up hehe)

I'm quite enjoying touchwizz 4 though I heard the version that shipped on the original Galaxy S was shocking.

50+ relevant comments in less than a day suggest people here are more interested in this topic than yet another thread on when the next iPhone will be released, or what it will be called.

I didn't say don't post it. I said it was the wrong forum. The focus is not the iPhone, so it should have been posted elsewhere, where no doubt interested people will discuss it. Look at the Mac forums - there are hardly any discussions re: non-Apple products, and there is a reason for that. Just sayin'.

Perhaps a compromise would be to have a forum on 'Alternatives to the iPhone' where spammers for Samsung, HTC, etc can post at will....

The S2 would be destroyed in a couple of months...iPhone 4S/5

Um, iPhone 5.....slightly faster - that's all. So I don't think so. The Galaxy S2 even has a potential for 64 GB capacity on board at a time. That, the 4.3" screen, HSPA+ and usb will blow the iPhone 5 away still, since it will have none of that for at least another year, if then. Think about that.

it does seem the Galaxy S2 is receiving a lot more positive press than your average android smartphone release. as great as this phone looks (i've seen all the videos) i can't imagine apple just rehashing the iphone 4 this september.

wait. yes i can.

Are you compairing the iPhone to an OS? The iPhone is simply hardware it does nothing that you said but Screen, Battery life, and Camera. The other stuff is OS.

Digs at apple are childish but digs at other brands or os are not? This is an apple forum but everyone doesn't love every apple product. I personally love ipads, iphones, and macbooks but I don't praise them blindly. Nothing is perfect, especially tech gadgets.

I come here to catch up on news, mostly, but do pop into the forums from time to time. I'm not the biggest poster, not by a long shot, but since Android became what it is now, I've noticed the influx of "anti-Apple" members being far more vocal than the "pro-Apple" members, along with a large degree of hypocrisy.

The second a "pro-Apple" member defends their brand, they're flamed, mocked, and called a "fanboi", while the "anti-Apple/pro-Android" (delete as applicable) continues their rant, expressing their opinion like it's fact while mocking the Apple user. It's commonplace on here now, which is why I like to stick to the front page news more often than not. It's embarrassing, from both sides. The overtly pro-Apple members, and the Android fans who for some reason have come here for nothing more than cheap kicks, long in the tooth digs, and to make a general nuisance of themselves.

I love tech, we all do, and I'm very much an Apple user and enjoy my products. I happen to have long thought that the Samsung Galaxy S took an envious glance at the iPhone 3GS design and thought, "You'll do", and it's been a long standing to-and-fro joke between myself and friends who own the Galaxy S, many months before Apple decided to sue.

I've mentioned on here many times, that I personally don't like Android as an OS and I only found one Android skin to be user friendly and intuitive and that was provided by HTC. TouchWizz, having used it on friends Galaxy S and Galaxy Tabs, doesn't feel quite as fluid to the touch as iOS, but that's my preference. The Galaxy SII is one very nice piece of kit, and Samsung have done well to pack what they have into something so thin, although I do think like the Galaxy S before it, it took a little peek into the iPhone 4's dressing room to see what Apple's phone was wearing this year, prior to turning up to the party.

There are far too many threads on here where Android fans slate iPhone users, ridicule them, call them fanbois, and yet cannot see that they themselves are guilty of the very thing they're mocking. It's a phone, buy what you prefer, and go to your own forums and chat with like minded users who enjoy the same products as you, leaving those with different preferences the hell alone. But we all know that's never, ever going to happen is it?

This is the ONLY Android device, or any mobile phone device actually that could get me to consider switching from my iPhone 4. And before I watched all the videos and read all the reviews for this phone I would have never thought that possible. (coming from someone who has stuck with iPhone after trying several Android devices in the past)

All that said, I can't seem to find pricing / availability dates for this thing? Has a set price or a rumored price been revealed, or a date? Thanks.

In the UK it's £399 on PAYG with O2 the last I heard, although some people doing unboxings on YouTube mentioned paying £500 or so for it SIM free.

I paid £499 for my iPhone 4 direct from Apple SIM free, so that price would seem standard for a high end smartphone.

+1000.

QFT. Couldn't have said it better myself.

The second a "pro-Apple" member defends their brand, they're flamed, mocked, and called a "fanboi",

I don't think anyone cares if someone simply praises the phone they own:

"I really like the way my phone can do XXX."

What causes trouble is when they throw in a jab at some other system, its owners, and/or posts what someone else considers to be incorrect information:

"My phone is way better than that other phone. I heard that it can't do XXX. So only a (fill in the blank) would buy it."

:)

If iPhones did not exist.. I would probably get this phone. The only thing that bothers me about it (besides the OS) is that DISGUSTING camera in the back... just horrible. Besides that, seems awesome!

I would buy this phone in a heartbeat over the iPhone 4 (and probably even iPhone 5) if I wasn't so tied to iTunes and invested heavily in already purchased apps and DRM protected videos. Man, Apple's got a lot of us by the balls and they know it. That's why their phone updates over the last few years have been so mediocre - they can make us buy a lesser phone knowing that we are so heavily invested into their ecosystem.

Still, if the iPhone 5 turns out to be as small of an upgrade as the iPad 2 was - I'm jumping ship to either this phone or something even better if it exists at that time. I'm tired of playing Apple's game. I want a bigger screen (at least 4"), 64 GB (or a microSD slot), and at least HSPA+ in iPhone 5 or that's it. That's where the rest of the market is and they need to be there NOW. I'd love to have a friggin' file system as well, but that's software.

wahhhh. Then GO. I personally DON'T want a 4" screen. I'll take the biggest they can fit in the current size, but no bigger. I'd prefer they keep the 3.5" and make the case smaller.

Fair enough, though I think *the discussion* that came from the original post has ended up being more relevant to iPhone/iPhome users than much of the other stuff here.

I suspect that would just encourage them.
