All I'm saying is that the next step in the cat and mouse game is going to be HUGE by appl setting back the jb community far! They will change jailbreaking for ever with the next firmware update

I'd like to see them try ;)

There is no perfect software and there is always hole that can be exploited sooner or later....

You do realize that Apple just has to delay JB by a month after each firmware release to almost destroy the JB community?

Really? Because they only release major .x revision (eg: 3.0 to 3.1) every 3-4 months usually and brand new firmware (eg: 3.0 to 4.0) is launched every year.

Delaying it by a month is nothing.... Why would I want to use say 3.0.1 over 3.0? or 4.0.1 over 4.0??? Unless they are releasing .x revision every month with substantial update, then I won't be upgrading....

Somewhat true but not entirely, all the ios software up to this point is always going to be jailbreakable. (obviously)

However how long did it take to jailbreak the ip4!!! It took months, and with only a few people doing the jailbreaks (comex, dev team) we rely on these few people to do EVERYTHING in the community. They don't make much money and always get people upset when they can jailbreak right away. This drove GEOHOT right away. Luckily comex came to the rescue!

I am sure there are number of ways that Apple can make each "minor" firmware upgrade necessary in order to fully utilize the phone.

You guys are predicting the future base on past events, and I am merely offering possible scenarios when Apple decided that the number of JBers is too large.

Not at all, Dev team and other members of the jailbreak community have already stayed that they have more than one exploit, and most of them are present on 4.1 betas, yes the current whole (and even maybe some of the others one) will be path, but you will see a jailbreak really shortly after 4.1 hit.

They just released the Safari hole since it is the most obvious and it was already adressed (in some form) on he last beta.

Hey this site is incredible! A fresh restore to latest firmware( don't restore from your backup) an it works like a charm on every device seamlessly.

However, this brings up a serious security issue, and no doubt will be closed up in the next firmware update. Before apple didn't fix the jailbreak because it wasn't as main stream and most people didn't realize how easy it was.

NOW it's legal, and an easy access website for all devices. This is going to be fixed so easily by apple in the next firmware update and won't be surprised if they don't just edit all the jailbreaking access points.

This was a really cool and neat idea, truly amazing website, but I think in the end it will be the final straw for apple to eliminate jailbreaking for good.

Theory noted... if there's a will there's a way. ;)

Whoa whoa let me ask you something... You actually care about Geohot?? Geohot the drama queen??

Yes great job for unlocking original iPhone via hardware but I have NOT been using any of his stuff and I am glad that the prima-donna is OUT of the community. I've been using Pwnage Tools since the beginning and been updating my 3G via the CFW so I could care less of what that boy is doing with his crapra1n

I do however still want to wait for his OtherOS fix on PS3 but I guess that thing is scrapped too since he has his butt hurt ;)

In other words, the next update will break the current jailbreak. Just like it's been for a while. Hence the whole deal about saving SHSH, etc.

Obviously Apple didn't want Facetime to go over 3G, and everyone can guess that being the #1 reason to jailbreak for majority of users...and now it is available.

I imagine Apple does not give two craps about using Facetime over 3G. Now, I bet ATT does and they can entice Apple to care a little, but I doubt Apple was the main force behind limiting Facetime.

They seem to be making the post of it in the Belfast Apple Store ;P

Hum, I kinda long for the days when it actually took a bit of know-how on a persons part to get the jailbreak done. Just look at the whole first page in this forum. All a bunch of problems people are having with this or that. Lord, some people are gonna be really busy trying to help all these newbies out. ;)

And yes, Apple will plug this up fairly quickly. It is a major security risk.

ahahaha, that's funny. I was gonna do that today, but my morals kicked in.

Doing a sneaky jailbreak was nothing compared to what else I saw going on at the same time, a bunch of other guys pointed an iPad to a hardcore porn video and walked off to leave it run, was quite amusing watching a girl walk up to it and be like "WTF?" and go bright red when an apple genius came over to ask her did she want a demo of the iPad...

I couldn't stop laughing

Alot of people still don't know about Jailbreaking, or do but won't do it as they hear stories about 'bricking' your iphone.

Even if joe public do jailbreak it, unless you know the sources and what apps/programs to use they wont see any difference

Unfortunately too many people in the jailbreaking scene don't even know what bricking is, and they apply it to every problem with their iphone thus spreading FUD to people who are not in the jailbreaking scene, further slowing its expansion.

lmao, I would have loved to see that.

But any simple minded person can realize that it's just software and restoring to original firmware apple cannot tell the device has been jailbroken, thus not voiding the warranty.

Second any person who has a friend who knows the slightest thing about jailbreaking or YouTube will show them how to install install0us and apple can start to lose a lot of money not to mention the developers!!!!

first things first, Install0us is NOT the reason to jailbreak, so please stop mentioning it. it's not appropriate here.....

months? it literally took one month to do. the past jailbreaks didn't take much less time. get your facts straight before posting a thread

^^Speculation...I think we'll be fine

This is why the smart JBers don't update until they're given the official word. Of course, maybe the phrase smart JBers is an oxymoron.

Uhhh facts, good one but in all reality a security breach like this won't last for long as well as public and the size of the jb community.

As I've said apple will patch this security breach fast and solidly, most likely fix the other exploits as well.

if apple really wanted to stop jailbreaking/unlocking

they wouldve done it

a billion dollar corporation would have no problem hiring someone to find exploits
then close them

as they have for every jailbreak breach.

those with jailbroken and unlocked phones will follow the same protocol, dont upgrade to latest firmware, etc

same ol cat and mouse game. no big deal.

most, if not all of the JB exploits have been patched by the next point upgrade

I appreciate the OP is just speculating but they are pretty far off the mark. Apple will patch this jailbreak exploit soon, and the dev team will find another exploit for the next firmware (they already have). This will continue on ad infinitum. Nothing has changed. The jailbreaking scene has not 'changed forever'.
