How so? The watch has a step counter component. Isn’t that used to determine a “Stand”? Because the watch definitely knows if you’re moving using gps and the step counter. Don’t try to pass off the watch as being “dumb”
You don't have to believe us, you can do it yourself. Wait until just before the hour. Sit down. Check number of hours counted standing. Swing your arm for 45 seconds. Check number of hours counted standing.

I'm currently two hours out. Shake, shake, shake!

Now, not all of this is completely sarcastic. If I get the 50 minute warning, I walk around, but make sure I swing my arm.

the question is, why doesn’t Apple measure “Stand” using the built in Hardware step counter component? Why is it that someone waving their hand trick the watch into thinking that they are standing? A bit lame on Apple’s part

has nothing to do with believing, its the ironic method you're using to get around the Stand goal.

I sit at a computer all day and was easily able to get this. I do try to make a point to stand up every hour. The stand goal has always been the easiest for me. I’m one of those who wear their apple watches all day long (and all night). I charge when showering.

Was an easy challenge for me - happy to see it. Wish there were more! :)

You can easily trick any step counter into giving you “fake” steps. It was incredibly easy on my Fitbit and still easy on my watch.

it’s not about believing, it that’s what you do to beat the stand goal then you are only fooling yourself
It's not about fooling. It's about getting credit when you actually do things. I got tired of getting the stand warning, walking around with a coffee mug for 10 minutes and getting no credit. So, I figured out what it measures. But, take whatever high horse helps you sleep at night.

You asked what it took. I told you.

you got this whole thing twisted, what I’m asking you is why wouldn’t Apple use the step counter ALONG with GPS to determine if someone actually moved, with all the sensors present in the Apple Watch you would think it wouldn’t be as easy as waving your wrist to trick the watch to think you stood up

As to that, no clue. You'd have to ask them.

I'm one of the lucky ones who won't get credit for a walk or exercise unless I get my heart rate high. Walk the dog for 18 minutes, no credit (she and my boys go slow). If I do jumping jacks first, and along the way, I might get credit. Run when I set my watch for a walk, full credit.

I don’t know how accurate the GPS would be though. On my walks when I track where I went it says I‘m all over the grass and in the road half the time, when I’m in the middle of the sidewalk the entire time. I can’t see those sensors being too helpful for getting your stand credit by walking around the house (depending on the size of your house).

I’m the same way. My walks usually give me full credit if I swing my arms while walking, but biking gives me nothing, which doesn’t make sense. So I’ve resorted to using the “Other” option on my bike rides. Which is unfortunate because I can’t track my speed or distance.

It is now 1150 pm here in Alaska. I ended up with 620 move calories, 31 exercise minutes and 17 stand hours. So I got my badge.

Well, the Series 4 and 5 have a built in barometer that can measure levels of elevation, perhaps that could be used to also measure if you actually stood up as opposed to "Stand" essentially being a gimmick because as you stated yourself in your own words, you trick it by simply waving your arm in order to fulfill the stand goal instead of actually standing which i find ironic to say the least as you're only fooling yourself by doing that but putting that fact aside, i'm really puzzled as to why Apple doesn't use the immense wide array of sensors in the apple watch to determine if someone actually stood up.

It essentially means that the ONLY component that is used to determine if someone actually stood to achieve the "Stand" goal is purely the built in accelerometer and nothing else hence why you can trick it by waving your wrist.
