In the filing, Epic Games again argues that Apple's App Store restrictions and fees are harming developers and consumers, calling the App Store unnecessary.

Funny... Epic had no problem with the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS they made through Apple's App Store while following Apple's rules.

The restrictions and fees didn't bother them when they were cashing those checks!

Yup. And we learned in discovery for this case that the Epic Games Store won’t be profitable until 2027, if things go their way. And the theoretical EGS on iOS would be an even more difficult market to break into than PC, meaning all this doesn’t even make business sense.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist nor xenophobic - but if you don’t think that this litigation isn’t driven by China’s (via Tencent’s investment in Epic) desire to crack open iOS, I don’t know what to tell you.

They’re happy to capitalize on the David v Goliath sentiment that is popular currently though. But let’s be real - Apple neither has an overwhelming marketshare, nor are they imposing predatory tactics. Yes, cutting favorable back room deals with large companies makes Apple look two-faced, but giving high volume customers a better rate is an entirely normal business practice.

Another reason developers must exclude their Developer Accounts from the Cameron v. Apple Class settlement.
This is not a settled matter.

Ya know, it was always my impression that the only developer businesses unhappy with the 30% profit sharing are those that REALLY don’t know how to run a business and, as a result, they’ve already spent their 70% even before they made it (potentially on stuff not even related to growing the business) Then, bills come due and they’re looking at the 30% like “IF ONLY I HAD THAT!!” Which, of course, if they had, they would likely also spend unwisely.

A business that’s planning on not being profitable until 2027 kinda fits that :)

As a developer and a consumer, I'm with Epic on this one.

Apple absolutely has a monopoly and should not be able to operate it currently does. All that money they make on their insane 30% cut and they still cant moderate the App Store.
Maybe Apple should switch with them. Take the 70% for Apple and give EPIC the insane 30%

Companies exist to make money, I'm not arguing that. Making money by exploiting those creating that income for you is what I am highlighting here.

Apple allowing 3rd party payment processing isn't going cause them to cease being a company.
Form your own company, give away your services and have fun.

So nice to see Tim Sweeney looking out for "developers and consumers" without being influenced by Epic games or Tencent's revenues.
The same can be said for Apple. This lawsuit is benefiting the consumer.

I think they were bothered. They were losing 30% of all revenue on Apple alone. I’m pretty sure they had to research the law carefully and be in a place where they can feasibly sue back.

I think they were bothered. They were losing 30% of all revenue on Apple alone.

But Epic knew about the 30% ahead of time. They signed a contract. They knew the rules.

Epic was on stage at the iPad introduction in 2010.

And like I said... Epic made hundreds of millions of dollars between then and now.

So it's kinda hard to feel sorry for Epic when they say "OMG we're losing so much money!" while they were cashing all those checks.

:p

Plus, they were pretty much losing 30% of all revenue everywhere except the PC. Xbox, Playstation, Switch, Google… everywhere. And, they were losing MORE on those because more purchases came through those.
