The word is developmentally disabled. I hate that word.

I believe it's a kind of disorder among rich and famous people who use social media. When one goes mad the others follow because they think it means it is is totally acceptable to become a rich lunatic with an army of troll farms to back up their madness.

Which divides the population into two camps: Those who pay up for at least one provider - possibly several. And those who don't.

I fall into the second, so the providers get nothing directly from me. I honestly can't even be bothered to work out what I can get from each provider.

This. Everyone has choices.

Before streaming, it wasn’t uncommon for a household to pay $60-$80 a month (or more) for an all-in-one cable television package with 100+ channels. And back then, there were few alternatives to that model. Whether we like it or not, that behavior set the market price for how much people would pay overall for entertainment.

I never paid for cable and, to-date, have never paid more than a total of $20 a month for streaming services.

The current system gives me a ton of choices. I can carry a service for a month to watch a few shows I like. For example, I’m paying for a month of appleTV+ so I can watch the Foundation series. Then I’ll cancel. That flexibility was non-existent under the cable-only model.

Fragmentation in this case is the cost of 1) an explosion of new (IMO, high quality) shows, 2) contract flexibility, 3) smaller cost segments and more.

We’re living the dream, even if it’s a bit more complicated to manage from an accounts/systems standpoint.

Let's face it, Apple is using it's monopoly power to force developers to use their app store in order for them to install apps on user's phone(and have to pay a tax to do so). How Apple got away with this for so long is beyond me. Imagine if MS locked down Windows and Apple iTunes had to pay MS 30% for every music and app store transaction that occurred on MS windows. Woulda been unheard of. iPod may never existed and digital music downloads may be $1.50 per song vs. $0.99/each.

Bottom line, Mobile Phone OS is no different that desktop OS and the restriction imposed for owners of iPhones from being able to install apps outside app store is outrageous and can't last forever.
Wah.....Wah.....Wah......
You need Android.
What's stopping you?

I think you havne't looked at the data recently, Let's talk US marketshare since that is what matters if you live in the US. Apple marketshare is in mid 50%, google has the remaining. So Apple/Google is a Duoploy, which is no differnt than a Monopoly. Compare that to Verizon/ATT/tmobile. They can't go running around screwing users, they are highly regulated private entities.
You don't know what you are Talking about, "https://www.statista.com/chart/22702/andoid-ios-market-share-selected-countries/" i don't see any Monopoly here, Dupoly eee still no. If a Monopoly than Intel should be punished by not making CPUs for other Chipsets than Intel, Microsoft should also open the DirectX to the all other Plattforms Linux and also i want the MS Store on Linux with all the Games if not lets sue MS ... (sounds ridiculos, yes but this is what you are telling here).
Do you have all the Informaiton on how the AppStore works a how delevoper are payed and how much they are paying ... no you don't because if so, you would be not writing such nonsence, so before you Post something read, read, read, and again read.
Now to the case, so Apple should provide AppStore for free as you are suggesting, take all the expenses to maintain the Servers and the costs of Services, do research on the Swift Programming Language and make it better and i can't imagine all the people just working only for the AppStore their Time and they need to get payed too ? or not.
Now comes a developer, (The Apple Developer Program annual fee is 99 USD and the Apple Developer Enterprise Program annual fee is 299 USD) for the dev account, creates an app, sends it to apple, he has the link for direct pay sure the price is a lot cheaper that in-app pay, so all the customer are paying direct ... apple get nothing. According to you its ok because how can Apple do that.
Well Tommorow if you go to work, tell your Employer that you don't need the money because now you are working pro-bono. Ok.
Next Example Shopping Mall (=AppStore) there are different Brands there (=Developers) and the shops there are Apps. The owner of the shopping mall has rules, the shopping mall owner pay for everything, energy, rent, parking places, service of the mall, securtiy, repaires and so on, a Shop has not to pay a commision to be there and if he sells a subscription he has to pay 30% which is not exactly true, and after a year it falls to 15%, now the store decides that it will not pay the shopping mall owner / he will arrange another paying plattform so the customers can pay the brands directly .... what will be the next steps .... yes exactly ... and now on top the brand owner is suing the shopping mall owner that he is a Monopoly .... well i don't know if this is normal in your country but if this is Democracy than Mr. Sweeney and Epic should be lock-up like now in a Mental State facility.
You can apply this to any case where there is such hierarchy.

No one is forced to use the App Store. Not developers, not consumers. And if MS wanted to do that they could have tried. If their actions provided value to one or more parties (e.g., an easier way to get content onto your device) some might have been more than willing to give them a cut.

And no one is forced to “pay a tax” to apple. In fact, you could post your app for free and have customers set up payment and account on the web (outside the app) and completely avoid sending any money Apple’s way. Just like Netflix does.

In all seriousness the current state of tv streaming is a joke.

With so many different services have different exclusives it’s more expensive than ever if you need multiple providers.

If I want to catch a full football season I’d require Sky + Sky Sports, BTSports, Amazon Prime.

Then there’s shows only available on Netflix, then those only available on NowTV and only available on Disney+.
Not every streaming service is needed year round. The best part of streaming services is being able to cancel during the months there isn’t new episodes of something you watch. There are several services I only use a few months a year. It’s even cheaper if you wait till a season is finished and pay for a single month

Soooo... He wants competition, but one single app store? For the whole world? Run by who exactly?

?HAHAHAHAHAHA

This guy must be a level 100 troll.

This guy does nothing but whine. He's like that little kid who is constantly throwing his toys out his pram and grizzling!

How sad for a supposed 'adult'.

Same could apply to every billionaire on Twitter. Shall we eat them or tax them so hard they act normal again?

I agree with him that Apple has too much control over what customers are or aren’t allowed to use on their phones and that their power over the developers who add value to their platform is verging on monopoly-like (no, Apple isn’t a monopoly, spare me your explanations), but a universal app store isn’t the solution. Companies should be allowed to run their own stores.

I think the only reasonable solutions are that Apple should either allow users to side load apps from elsewhere or loosen the restrictions on what can or can’t be in the app store (provided that it’s not malicious or an outright scam).

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has today renewed his attack on Apple and called for a single, universal app store that works across all platforms (via Bloomberg).

Last year, Epic's popular game "Fortnite" became the subject of heated litigation with Apple and Google over the rate of commission on in-app purchases. After Epic broke App Store rules by implementing a direct payment option, the game was removed from the App Store and Epic's developer account was terminated.

A lengthy legal battle ensued, resulting in the verdict while that Apple's anti-steering conduct is anti-competitive, Apple was correct on on all other counts. Epic Games paid Apple $6,000,000 in lost royalties but has appealed the verdict.

In an interview at the Global Conference for Mobile Application Ecosystem Fairness in Seoul, South Korea, Sweeney said:

Sweeney added that Epic Games is working with developers and service providers to create a system to allow users to "to buy software in one place, knowing that they'd have it on all devices and all platforms." Epic Games already offers the Epic Games Store, aimed at PC gamers, which also charges a commission.

Earlier this year, South Korea passed a bill that prohibits app distribution platforms from forcing developers to use their payment method alone and. Apple will be required to offer multiple in-app payment methods in South Korea, but the company has not yet made any changes to facilitate this.

Sweeney praised the legislation and accused Apple of complying "with oppressive foreign laws" while "ignoring laws passed by Korea's democracy." "Apple must be stopped," he added.

Epic complains about monopoly. Suggests a monopoly as a solution.

He's not asking for that.

Companies do run their own stores on the desktop. Mobile device is a big no-no. Too many fake companies in the world run by criminals trying to exploit kids and illiterate users.

I’m starting to think that Sweeney guy is a Trojan horse created by Apple. Is now shooting Apple App Store, Windows Store, Steam Store and all too. All because his store does not seam to be as competitive.

What we need is an Universal store for everything, not just apps or digital services … shoot Amazon … lololol.

I didn’t say he was. Read what I wrote.

Microsoft Store did charge 30% for games and apps they distributed. They lowered that percentage. Regardless, those that distribute apps provide a service that helps app developers, host, promote, and distribute their apps. It costs money to review apps, create a catalog, support reviews, bandwidth to download to millions of people, support software update system in a central place for users. That service has value that developers don’t even have to give second thought to. And users avoid having tens of different software updaters. No one loves having that Creative Cloud app and Microsoft Updater along with others on their Macs eating up compute resources. Imagine that on a phone.
