Not really sure why the CEO is still in his position if he's "spending way more money than we're making" at this point. Epic Games raked in BILLIONS in the early days of Fortnite and his hubris has absolutely destroyed that success. I agree with him that 30% is a steep fee to pay for App Store revenues, but I just don't know if mobile & Mac sales were really worth all that. At this point, people are losing their jobs just because he's a stubborn Ox.

Maybe after they fail they can buy Fortnite and now it’ll be an Apple exclusive.
I’d hope not. Fortnite is pretty aggressively monetized (you could even go as far as calling it predatory, and be pretty well justified), and the whole battle royale genre seems to be a genre that only works (or, could only be profitable) using a freemium model (in part because of the ongoing content updates that drive continued engagement). I don’t think you could get it to work in the Apple Arcade model, and the last thing we need is Apple getting info freemium games directly.

Agreed in most cases. For EPIC it seems they're being generous with vesting, but I don't think that employees own nearly any amount of this company so it might not be so generous after all.

Yeah could be, I would assume many employees jump ship elsewhere once CEO and the senior management started to make poor decisions to be honest.

To be fair, there has been mass layoffs in the tech industry over the last year, with the gaming industry hit pretty hard.

While I am sure the legal issues have not helped Epic, they are not alone when it comes to layoffs.
This won't stop people from trying to tie and blame the layoffs on the Epic vs Apple case though.

I mean, it was just reported yesterday that Activision Blizzard is laying off some people, and last month BioWare laid off a bunch of employees while Volition laid off people and shut down their studio.

Electronic Arts laid off 6% of employees earlier this year, as did Take Two Interactive.

Then there were the lay offs over at Deviation Games (Sony Playstation studio), Relic Entertainment, and Unity Software over the summer on top of those at Microsoft's Xbox game studios at the start of this year.

Apple should stop taking a cut from everything an app does for the user. Epic should be allowed to sell skins without Apple's cut. Apple's cut should come only from the original app and subscriptions. If Apple continues to take a cut for every little thing an app offers it will be hounded for monopolist behaviours, especially if market share goes up.

Ultimately, Sweeney got cocky based on economic conditions at the time and was quick to waste money. Also, Fortnite was popular and riding high at the time but like all things popularity wanes. Fortnite isn't hot right now so the money is drying up. Sweeney wasn't practicing healthy financial best practices and now we are starting to see signs of Epic's downfall. I see them getting bought out in 5 years or less.
