If Apple didn’t make those and nobody developed for the iPhone, it would never have become the juggernaut that it did. Apple sold more hardware because of the app developers.
And that Apple developed this safe user friendly ecosystem, allowed app developers to do their thing. To wit, Epic made hundreds of millions from the app store.

Stop with the curation and safety
Please, just stop with that.
Well then - you keep check of the fraudulent and abusive apps.
The system might not be perfect, but it provides some semblance of regulation.
If you're fine with giving just about anyone access to a data rich, always on personal device, so be it.
I'll stick to my walled garden, thank you.

Third party Apps are still sandboxed and notarized by Apple

The safety concerns are complete FUD

Yes. It will be cheaper (for now).

But it’s not the point. The point is Epic is basically doing what they said Apple was doing. Not 1 for 1 but close.

It’s kinda hypocritical.
So the next guy sets up his payment platform until the next guy sets up his payment platform until the next guy sets up his payment platform and we have a handful of companies competing with each other.

You can only get target branded items at target. Walmart branded items at Walmart. If you want target peanuts you can’t get them at Walmart. But you can get Walmart peanuts at Walmart.
Meanwhile you can buy Planters brand peanuts at Target where they publish their company information on the can allowing you to visit their website and purchase directly or find where else you can purchase Planters brand peanuts.

Same type of thing for the Wall Street journal. It can be gotten on iOS, google play and the web. Or Amazon or Facebook etc.

At the same time Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, products are sold at Walmart. You take them home then make purchases on those products and Walmart doesn't see a cent of that.

For that matter Apple products are sold at Walmart. Should Walmart demand a percentage of all purchases made on Apple products sold from their store? Walmart provided that customer for Apple, why shouldn't they get a cut of Apple's revenue for products purchased from their store.

It seems kind of scummy that Epic wants to come in and take the profitable App Store business from Apple’s best-selling product. That money will go from making iPhone better to making Fortnite better. But also, Apple’s App Store policies are kind of money-grubbing. It makes sense to pay Apple a fee to have your app listed, but you shouldn’t have to keep paying Apple a yearly fee to keep your free apps available to people.

You're cherry picking arguments here.
What about providing bandwidth, curation and safety? Should Apple provide those for free as well?
What you wrote sums up Sweeney's agenda without any counterpoint.
What about all of the apps that are free to download and use? I just downloaded a game a few days ago that I’ve been playing quite a bit. It was free to download and I haven’t spent a dime in-app. I use the Reddit app a lot. Once again, it was free to download and I’ve never made an in-app purchase. 🤷‍♀️

The reality of most of these rulings against Apple is that consumers will have a more fragmented, confusing, and friction-filled experience.

Apple will see a lower return on their investments, customers will have a less cohesive and rewarding time using their products, and all so some other large companies can maximise their own profits.

I never asked for this. I don’t want this. I don’t think it’s in my interests.

Apple will see a lower return on their investments,
Oh no

customers will have a less cohesive and rewarding time using their products
Not necessarily true at all. Apple themselves could get in the mix and make Apple Pay a competitive option for sign ups/purchases on the Apps

And I'd actually have a FAR more rewarding time on my iPad if I could use a real desktop class alternative to iPadOS Safari

You clearly have never read the Vlasic Walmart story.

Take the third party Apps off iPhone and see how well it does
That’s right. You take away the 3d party apps away from IOS and iPhone and it won’t do well. But if Apple also can’t make a business out of giving things away for free. So if the revenue dies from selling 3d party apps because they they are not allowed to collect revenue from it, Apple will eventually die unless they come up with something else they can make money from. A company cannot give things out for free and survive. Period.
