You said that there were still no one online even when plugged into the modem. Check your settings and make sure you are in the Online list and not the LAN (something like that).

Thanks. That link will help me alot, but do I have to that for every game I play? And how do I know the codes for the other games? But yeah, it didn't work even coming directly from the modem. Yes I had everything set correctly, not LAN. It was set on Internet.

edit: Okay I have some more info that might allow someone to help me with my very serious problem. Our internet connection is crippled. It's just plain crippled. Nobody ever bought any parental control stuff or anything like that. We just payed for the service, and got it hooked up. 768kb DSL, that's all.

However, the following things do not work:

1. Signing into MSN
2. Using any music download software. (Acquisition, LimeWire etc)
3. STEAM doesn't connect.
4. Multiplayer online games don't work.

Number 4, is why I didn't see any servers online.

Is this not a strange phenomena? Is there an explanation for it?

Try downloading the firmware for you router and reinstalling that, then just set everything to defaults. It looks like your router is all misconfigured.

What I meant here is not related to the routers. I'm just asking if theres anything I can do to uncorrupt our internet connection, and allow it to do the 4 things i've listed above. It doesn't do them even coming strait from the modem.

Your internet connection isint corrupted, windows is.
Usually I would know what to tell you, but switching to mac I havent used XP in 5 months.

Oh wait, did you check to see if the windows firewall is off?

If not, reinstall windows. Thats what I do

I'm on a mac, and yes it was the firewall. I've turned it to low now.

Thanks
For some reason I assumed you had windows, oh well.

So I take it your problems fixed, but since youre behind a NAT firewall (your router) I would just turn off the mac firewall to aviod any problems. That is unless the other computers in your network are trying to get into your computer.

Okay, so we're going to run a ethernet cable from one end of our house to the other, so that me and my brother can have internet on our computers at the other end of the house. The thing is this:

We're going to plug the modem into the router, we'll plug Slot 1 of the router into my mom's computer here at the first end of the house, and then a cable from slot 2 will go to the other end of the house. But then we need to plug into two computers. Can we go into another router from there to split to me and my brothers computers? Will that work?

Thanks alot.

You don't want a 2nd router, you want a hub or a switch. Use a straight-through cable from one of the router's LAN ports to the uplink port of the hub or switch. This should be a very inexpensive piece of equipment (<$30). Try buy.com.
