Consumer protection, I understand, but this is sort of pointless. What exactly are people being protected from with this? I'll rephrase my original question to you.

Have you ever been confused when an app prompts you to pay for something?

Missing the point. Consumer protection law is clear about the targeting of children and the pressure they put on parents.

M.

Fine, but you are the one that jumped all over another poster first, and IMO made him an enemy over IAP. Guess it bothers you when reciprocated?

I did not refer to the other poster as an enemy at all. You made that up yourself. They other poster is the one who called developers greedy. I challenged what they said. I didnt misinterpret anything. They were explicit. Quit being dishonest and being a hypocrite.

Definitely shouldn't be called free since they ain't.

Just create a separate category for them so there can be no confusion. Also allow a filter so we can filter this crap out.

Problem sorted.

No, *I* have never been confused about it. My three-year old, who occasionally plays something or watches a video on my phone is, though. Especially since she can't read yet, so she wouldn't know what parts are game/video and what are ads or popups prompting purchases.

Now, I think that I know how to disable IAP, but ow can I be sure? What if there is some other setting somewhere else that overrides my default setting? How can I know, and what if Apple is withholding some information regarding this in order to keep cashing in on their juicy 30 % cut?

It is for things like these that I want someone watching my back and standing up for my rights.

No. People shouldn't buy things and not learn to use them. This isn't on Apple. This is the most idiotic bunch of BS I've ever seen.

"I didn't watch my kids, better go blame someone else"

The software shouldn't be so basic that a child can make financial transactions, it's as simple as that!

Not every iOS device owner has the technical know-how of Steve Jobs! Apple acquired all these new non-tech savvy users who have made them billions, Apple should be doing better at protecting them.

Parents who give their kids access to an account with a CREDIT CARD on it deserve exactly what happens as a result. I mean, seriously, how stupid can some people possibly be? And then they whine that Apple isn't doing enough to prevent their own stupid parenting.

Some people truly don't deserve to own a smart phone, because they are WAY too stupid to use even simplistic tech.

It's no surprise that these same dimwits hold positions in the EU.

Are you incapable of doing a 30 second Google search to figure this out...? Are you really that thick? Apple loses a lot more money on child IAP's due to refunds than it makes.

An organization that's over €11,547,539,000,000 in debt is concerned about in-app purchases?
THIS.

It is amazing how dumb the level of political discourse has become in both the EU and US. It's like arguing vehemently about seating arrangements on the Titanic.

It's as simple as not buying stuff for your kids, and letting them use it without knowing what can happen. It's the parents fault. Period. End of story. Bottom line. It's their job to watch their kids, not Apple's. This is just more BS with people wanting to blame someone else for their mistake.

Good! It's a shame that the US cares more for corporations over consumers but at least the EU is doing their best.

Hopefully it shakes all of the big three into doing the right thing.

A GREAT day for Google clearly leading the industry, a poor day for Apple showing it's lagging and apparent decision to ignore the rules by not stating they will do anything about them...

Google will remove the word 'Free' from freemium, IAP etc etc apps... Apple so far will not...

Uh, what? Google is only doing this because they were made to. Why are you pretending Google is doing this out of the goodness of their heart? Apple NOR Google cares about consumers until they're shamed into doing it by the EU. I just wish the US cared enough as the EU does.

Yes, it is the parents fault, but Apple need to improve the software to stop it from happening. It's that simple.

Making a financial transaction with no authentication should not even be an option in iOS/OS X.

No. Unless you want to scrap consumer protection law. I know there are some anarchist libertarians out there but thankfully most of us prefer regulation.

Yes, Apple should remove the Free part of the advertising. It has in app purchases, and instead of claiming that in tiny writing below the big FREE writing, it should swap them so the FREE is the small text.

Actually if you read my post again you'll notice that I was referring to the Google Play store, as it seems that they still advertise In App Purchase-Apps as "Free"

(according to the google play store)

I was just curious about what exactly you were celebrating them for right now? Edit: Ok I understand, you're celebrating them for planning on removing the "free" - so far they are still actively misleading and advertising falsely. I was under the impression that those changes already had been made. My mistake.

It seems parents and EU want Apple to spoon-feed the easier ways to cheery-pick which IAP they want WHILE their children might as well abuse the same system. It's like saying "i set my password password and got hacked! they suck!"

I make and sell small electronic things.

I can't sell them in Europe because of RoHS, and lead-free solder is just too onerous to work with.

More and more, Europe is just becoming too difficult a market to deal with because of the increasing burdens of EU regulations. How much more of this before large businesses just decide that Europe isn't worth the bother?

Are you seriously comparing a law about not putting poison in electronics with IAP?

Never mind the eprsons buying and handling your "small electronic things"...have you ever considererd how your fabulous products are recycled and what lead and other toxins do to those persons doing the recycling?

Probably not, else it would be hard to imagine you defending poisonous materials by stating the use of safe materials is too much of a hassle for you...or maybe you did and just don't care...

In your particular case I praise the EU for keeping your garbage out!!!

Yes. Because it's clear that both are ridiculously over-reaching and unnecessarily onerous regulatory actions taken by the EU.

Never mind the eprsons buying and handling your "small electronic things"...have you ever considererd how your fabulous products are recycled and what lead and other toxins do to those persons doing the recycling?

Yes I have. Tin-lead solder has been used by the electronics industry for over a century. I have not seen any concrete evidence that tin-lead solder ALONE has ever been labeled as an environmental issue. And yet, it's banned in Europe.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Yeah right. And you're a backwoodsman who lives in a bunker and have never knowingly benefited from a government regulation.

I don't need the government to look out for me. I can take care of myself, unlike these people that can't keep their kids from buying stuff on their phones because they're too lazy to spend 2 minutes figuring out how to stop them.
