Well, there are 567 comments and I've read dozens of them, but not enough to know if I'm suggesting a point that others have already mentioned, for which I apologize in advance.
I think that governments have every right to break up monopolies, ensure safety, and punish fraud, but when it comes to making decisions about what products should have which specs is the job of the seller. If the seller choses specifications that customers don't want, any sentient seller will have its marketing department discovering what the marker does want. Arguing with politicians and bureaucrats about specs is a fool's errand, while taking the time and money to fully understand what specs prospective buyers want and don't want will pay dividends.
Oh dear oh dear. That’s not what they are saying. What they want is no proprietary connectors whether from Apple or anyone else. Why should I have one cable each for my phone, iPad, laptop. It’s not fixed at usb c forever - if the industry agrees on a new future standard then the EU will move to it - as a block.
If Apple doesn’t want to play they can choose not to sell in the EU - their choice.
