Well, there are 567 comments and I've read dozens of them, but not enough to know if I'm suggesting a point that others have already mentioned, for which I apologize in advance.

I think that governments have every right to break up monopolies, ensure safety, and punish fraud, but when it comes to making decisions about what products should have which specs is the job of the seller. If the seller choses specifications that customers don't want, any sentient seller will have its marketing department discovering what the marker does want. Arguing with politicians and bureaucrats about specs is a fool's errand, while taking the time and money to fully understand what specs prospective buyers want and don't want will pay dividends.

Oh dear oh dear. That’s not what they are saying. What they want is no proprietary connectors whether from Apple or anyone else. Why should I have one cable each for my phone, iPad, laptop. It’s not fixed at usb c forever - if the industry agrees on a new future standard then the EU will move to it - as a block.

If Apple doesn’t want to play they can choose not to sell in the EU - their choice.

Or only sell USB-C in EU. Like they have different models already. ESim only in US, nano and eSim RoW, China dual nano sim.

It’s sad that it takes the EU to basically get apple on board with up to date charging and data transfer speeds on iPhones. The supposed merits of lightning ring hollow when you see apple using usb c basically on all other devices including iPads………

What baffles me is the EU is saying that fast charging all has to be the same charge speeds as well. That will stifle innovation and advancement. The port is also renowned to damage very easily compared to lightning.

However, it is annoying having different cables around. Doesn’t necessarily mean that people will change chargers. Just the cable.
The stuff about fast charging sounds so stupid that we have to hope it is a bad translation.

Been expecting this for some time, Apple needs to switch to USB-C. Just strange it had to take the EU to force it.

And yet they allow such "proprietary connectors" for other things. Every tried to use an electric plug in Europe? 🤪 (For the too dense I'm being sarcastic)
