I did cancel my 14” 32GB / 512gb as I can’t motivate 500 euro for 32GB of ram when I do manage with 16GB as I only will have this machine for 2-3 years.

I only have 30-50% compressed in the monitor.

So I did pick up my 16/512gb today :) I’m loving it!

You sure about that? I just checked my AppleCare+ policy and it clearly states 2 cases of accidental dages per year during the term of the policy (3 years). This is in The Netherlands, not sure if that differs per country.
You're right and this is kinda confusing on the German page. It reads "Bis zu zwei Reparaturen bei unabsichtlicher Beschädigung binnen 12 Monaten" which translates to "2 cases of accidental damage within 12 months". The English page states per year.

I thought they've cut down accidental damage protection. I might consider AppleCare+ now. The question is if I rather have a theft protection or a more sophisticated accidental damage protection.

Apple has already activated my AppleCare+ two days ago, even though I am receiving the machine on Monday. Ultimately I am losing one week of AppleCare because of that. Very sneaky. Currently contemplating whether I should call them to get this fixed.

How you liking that LG monitor? I'm looking into getting a new monitor.

Same here. Started on the 26th. So I'll only lose 3 days if UPS delivers it tomorrow. Guess I can't be bothered by that.

  • 13" MacBook Pro Mid 2009 (bought in 2009)
  • 15" MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (bought in 2012)
  • 15" MacBook Pro Mid 2015 (bought in 2016)
  • 14" MacBook Pro Mid 2021 (bought now)

While initially 3 years, I then used it for 4 years and now for 5 years. If that holds true, I probably have this machine for 5 or even 6 years now. € 3000 suddenly becomes less of an expense but it still is insane considering I could barely afford the Mid 2015 one for € 2400 back then.

Well, I am still on a 2012 Retina laptop. Although I had a DTK for until march. I literally paid nearly the same for the 2012 MBP than the new one, and 9 years later it has definitely paid off properly

Does anyone else have large differences between Apple's and UPS's estimated delivery date? Apple says tomorrow, while UPS says Monday for me (in NL). UPS shows it's been cleared by customs after coming from Shanghai last night.

Seems tricky to deliver tomorrow, unless it's getting flown to Europe today and then shipped directly to me tomorrow. UPS estimate seems more realistic.

only small differences, UPS says tomorrow, Apple "within shot time" and Apple store APP 29/10-2/11 - they are all different!

Hi,

anyone in the same situation? I’m in the delivery timeframe and my MBP has still not yet been shipped ?

UPS is more accurate. I think Apple's page fetches the data from UPS once there is an initial delivery date. It's out of Apple hands now so the shipping company's estimate is the best one.

Looks like your MacBook Pro has not even been prepared for shipping. Which model did you order and when did you order?

I ordered a BTO (14” maxed out, 2TB SSD, silver) on 18th Oct, 20:20h.
But maybe it will get shipped tomorrow. Then the 3rd of Nov might still be possible.

I ordered my first one at 20:01 and 20:13 so 20:20 is actually quite "late". I assume you are more likely to be in the Nov 3rd timeframe than Oct 29th. A lot of orders coming through at first. Mine only have the M1 Pro. Could be that the M1 Max orders are a bit more delayed for whatever reason :)

Mine has shipped now. UPS says it’s in Shanghai so I guess no way I’ll see it tomorrow isn’t there?

Unfortunately not; in the best case, it will be in Köln late tomorrow afternoon (Friday), and it is then unlikely to be delivered before Monday or Tuesday (depending on whether Monday is a holiday where you are, which I believe differs amongst the Länder?). And it may take more time to leave Shanghai, although I think you could hope it will catch up over the weekend.

Guess its Tuesday then. I'm located in the south of Germany. Was looking forward to a long weekend with the new device but I guess next week is still ok :)
