If only MS would provide a suitable controller for those better games, they would be better. But nooooooooooooooooooo, now I have to suffer with inferior ports, which have pushed me to the point of why bother, since I know the game will suck compared to what it could have been. Every time MS gimps another should-have-been-a-PC game, an indian cries. :(

One of the reasons MS moved quickly to the 360, besides trying to get ahead start, was because the first XBox was/is rampant with piracy. They created a great box for moding. Everyone I know that had one, modded it and stopped buying games.

Works better on most games that the wiimote and nunchuck does in fairness. I have no problems with the 360 controller, probably one of the best designed controllers I've used in all my years of gaming.

As for inferior ports ? and MS 'gimping' pc games - Jack you need to let it go and move on. Whilst your bitching others are enjoying those supposedly gimped games.

Oh and PS2 and others never had any problems with piracy ? Jack that was a pure example of how to make an obvious utterly blatant biased statement. Heck the Wii and DS are even more rampant for piracy too. Hell don't even get me started on PC piracy too. It's not just a M$ issue - it's a gaming industry problem.

Someone's touchy today... I take it you didn't like my indian sarcasm. :)

Me move on... Nope, because I've had better and my crotchetiness keeps me in that era.

Of course piracy is an industry problem, but the point I was making, is that MS's console with its HD(Hard Drive -- I'm old school) made it quite easy and that its piracy problem was worse than the others. I can't recall ever going to a friend's house and playing their pirated PS2 games -- which given its huge success, should have been the case. This is a stark contrast to the fact that everyone I know that has had a XBox, either bought it modded, or had it modded. I take it you've never been to a XBox party? I'll give you a hint, lots of sharing and dumping from one XBox to the next was the norm.

I am trying to figure out why some one would think the 360 control design is bad. It really is a great design and I love how it works.

As a standard console controller it works (except for the terrible terrible direction pad). If you're responding to JackAxe he doesn't like it because certain genres don't work well with these controllers, and I agree. There's a lack of speed and precision when it comes to FPS games and often a developer will alter the game to compensate for the slower controls. Hence "gimped".

When MS made the orginal Xbox they stated it was going to be a projected 8 years at best before they broke even. Also they where losing at one point 300 a box. My understanding is it met the goal. They knew it was going to cost them a lot just to get into the market and break Nintendo's and PS strong hold.

I do not expect to see MS leave the market place but instead grow.

It's a desperation product. By far the greatest hold that Microsoft has on home users is Windows compatible games. If you look at the number one reason why a lot of people won't buy a Mac for their home it is games. Gaming has been moving to consoles for some time now, whether we like it or not. Non Microsoft gaming platforms are a threat to Windows.

The media centre stuff is secondary. Microsoft only really cares about that as long as they can control the software formats for digital audio and video. Apple destroyed that hope for audio (Windows Media DRM is now basically dead), but video is still somewhat up for grabs (although smart money is on Apple or open formats).

That's not to say that the Xbox or Xbox 360 are necessarily poor products, although the hardware for the 360 is shocking and makes it the Pinto of consoles.

In fairness, it's the cooling problems / side of things that is shocking..
The actual processor and gpu hardware itself is still out gunning the ps3 graphically.

Too many PS3 games (GTA IV, Condemned, Jehrico, Darkness etc...) rendering lately in 576p (MGS4 is rumored to do the same) which is just glorified PAL progressive, whereas the 360 runs them all in 720p and mostly with 2x AA enabled.

Bar a few examples - generally the 360 still has the best version in multi-format games.

^Its a little more than cooling....its the design and placements that has the console crashing. MS has put all the chips(smaller and smaller) yet the problem is still lingering.

You must remember when multiplat games do come they(developers) don't use the PS3 as it was intended...this is one of the reasons why games like HS, R&C, uncharted etc...are graphically impressive not to mention multiplat games such as COD4, Burnout and even GTA4 that is rumored to run at 640p still performs(notice I didn't say look) better on the PS3.

Developers are learning the PS3 and its showing in the majority of games of late....the only thing that separates PS3 & 360 now is Live/PSN.

The 360 does have the leg up on AA though I must say.

Bless

I estimate the PlayStation 3 will overtake 360 sales in the US sometime in mid to late 2009. (when Blu-Ray finally becomes main-stream)

You can take that to the bank.:D

GTAIV

Hired it the other day on 360 when the 576p thing broke just to see the difference.

Yes the 360 version looks better, sharper. Performance wise - bar loading times to be honest I couldn't see any major thing one way or the other, so I returned the 360 rental and kept my PS3 version. Not worth losing money trading it in for the other version.

Burnout Paradise

Not tried Burnout on anything other than PS3 so can't say - however again I really struggled to get into Burnout Paradise.

COD4

COD4 I had on 360 and traded it in for the PS3 version seeing as there was a COD4 PSN thread on here (though never got round to playing it online  ) and again I haven't noticed or can see any difference between either version.

But this is what concerns me. The PS3 hard to develop for should not be an excuse 18 months or more after launch.

Developers and games now like HAZE have had ages in development (well over 2.5 years) and had plenty of time for them to get their head around developing for the PS3, so why the heck are these new titles coming out in 576p? I mean come on that's STANDARD DEFINITION in Pal territories. If anything we should be seeing more 1080p games, not going down! Development is regressing rather that progressing.

I do like the PS3 hardware wise, but lately this is beginning to irk me a lot. It's bad enough having no AA or framerate issues in multiformat games, but to have SD games on an exclusive is just a load of balls.

I hope they sort it out, because if they don't then I do not see the PS3 lasting 10 years before the PS4 hits, it'll be more like 5 tops.

Why not? I have a 360 too as it's got far better games in my opinion. I'm sure I'm not alone in having both systems :)

Because the 360 and PS3 pretty much have the same games...except for a few exclusives that each has. If you already have a PS3, it's pretty much a waste to get a 360 unless you really want Halo. That's why I say: get a Wii and either a PS3 or 360, depending on which exclusives you want more.

well as long as they get the same idea again of cutting short like microsoft did it in europe with it's 3,5 years from xbox to 360

wow i just realized that the 360 is out 2,5 years already ... already half of it's lifetime over i guess

I would like to see the PS3 go down to $299 for the holidays, but not as likely as Sony was (or still?) loosing money on it, and there's no more competition from HD DVD and Blu-ray standalone prices remain high (same price as the PS3 right now!).

I guess they can keep the price at $399 and still offer the $100 at the sony online store.

Definitely start seeing a drop in price for older games and older Blu-ray movies to make it more worthwhile to buy the system.

I personally like the 360 over the PS. First the bonus of ablity to link into my desktop as soon as I fix my networking bugs is nice (router issues) and I like some of the more exclusive games for the 360.

Lastly I like the fact I can plug my 360 controller into my desktop and use it as a game pad.

hell I owned a 360 wired controller for my desktop before I got the 360 because it is a good game pad.

Where is that £300 deal? I've nevar seen that. I remember hearing about it though...

Daym boy, you're right. I've had a little look and I can't seem to find it now. They did used to sell it. The games were fixed though, Resistance and that early racing game. All I can find now is the plain old 40gb PS3 for £300 or the GTA IV bundle for £320. Ouch.

Isn't it just brilliant :) I love mine so much I decided to make my upcoming PC game 100% compatible with it. Rumble, analogue sensitivity, 2nd analogue nub as a camera...

I'd be surprised if Microsoft makes another console to be honest.

They suck at making hardware. All the software in the world won't make up for that. Xbox Live has a better front end than the PSN, but I hardly ever have lag issues on the PSN, and I have them frequently on XBL (and no, my internet is not to blame, I have faster internet than most people do).

I can see MS making some kind of Vista console. Basically a PC with high end, soldered hardware at a low price.
