Eve today announced the official launch of its updated HomeKit-enabled Eve Light Switch in the United States, with the new accessory now available for purchase.

Eve's Light Switch is the 15th Eve product to support the upcoming Matter smart home standard that is expected to launch later this year. Matter is designed to allow products from different smart home manufacturers like Apple and Google to interact with one another, something that is not possible at the current time.

Thread support is also available, and with other Thread-enabled products, the Eve Light Switch serves as a router node to enhance the Thread mesh network for improved connectivity with other Thread devices.

The third-generation Eve Light Switch supports rooms with three-way switches, and it adds support for connecting lights to a smart home network without having to change bulbs. Eve says that it is simple to install the Light Switch, and there is an instructional video available.

With HomeKit integration, the Eve Light Switch can be controlled through the Home app, the Eve app, or with Siri voice commands, plus it can be used to access lights when away from home with a Home hub that includes the HomePod or the Apple TV.

The Eve Light Switch can be purchased from the Eve website or from Amazon for $50.

So that someone in some other country can decide how bright your lights should be. I recently shopped for an astronomical switch and made it a point to stay away from bluetooth, wifi, or cloud-controllable devices.
Well they won’t be deciding how bright they are, since this doesn’t even have dimming functionality at $50. Crazy.

Also, for the record I have Lutron Caseta throughout my house and would never go back to regular light switches. You’re missing out.

What happens if they stop updating/supporting the app?

Slight clarification on the article. Matter is a smart home standard supported by the major smart home companies, but existing hubs like HomeAutomation already support making Apple and Google products working together. But good luck for a novice user to make this work.

Love Eve’s products. I’ve been waiting for them to update their light switches to Thread.

Edit: Ordered a few of these on Tuesday from Eve’s website with ApplePay and was disappointed to find that they haven’t integrated with the order tracking in the Wallet App.

Sparse details here. No dimmer? So, it’s a thread router (enhancing your thread network), and an endpoint (can be controlled by your phone or possibly another device, but can it control other lights? Prior to Matter, this wasn’t generally possible. There’s a real safety issue with lights responding in an emergency. Imagine there’s a fire and you hit a light switch that’s supposed to turn on every light in the house. That’s either brilliant or a spectacular failure depending on if it works.

Lutron has been around for decades. They support homes, businesses, and enterprise lighting designs. They aren't going anywhere. It also works without internet access so if for some reason they stop supporting their hub with security updates I'll block it from the internet and only allow local traffic.

You should read up on Matter before making such an misinformed comment. They work locally. Matter devices will not need the internet to work.

You don't need to use their app. It can be used on its own through the Home app, or other equivalent app from Google/Android or Amazon/Alexa (it has HomeKit/Matter/thread support). If Eve ceases to exist for whatever reason, the device will still work.

One reason that the HomeKit integration is so important is to help facilitate security. Just my $0.02.

“Eve's Light Switch is the 15th Eve product to support the upcoming Matter smart home standard that is expected to launch later this year.”

Matter officially launched on October 4, 2022.

Looks like a great product, if they make a dimmable version, I will probably pick one up.

Has anyone gone through the process of moving houses and figuring out what to do about all the smart devices they’ve installed? I have smart recessed lighting in a few rooms and I want to get some thread/matter dimmable switches whenever those come out, but if I were to move today, I can’t imagine leaving all that behind after what I spent on it. On the other hand, the thought of removing my stuff, and installing standard bulbs and switches for whoever is buying my house sounds like a pain.

My iHome smartplug that I use to schedule the lights of my aquarium turning on and off stopped getting updates and support, but the final message from the app was to use Homekit instead. Works perfectly, even better than with the app itself. I feel sad for the andoroid users who I think don't get this option... :/

Are you really that technologically inept?

This doesn't, and cannot, happen.

On top of that you don't understand HomeKit.

Are you reading about people who ENABLED thermostat controls VOLUNTARILY and then regret it?

My goodness.

It's all about very careful planning, expensive bulbs aren't as necessary as I first thought (do not get me wrong, Philps Hue is worth every penny) but the planning of switches with lights that are "dumb" dimmable etc can make moving easier on top of being a better way to plan
