Eve Rolling Out Matter Firmware Update for Select Products

Ok this is going to be another negative comment but:

If you’ve ever used the eve app, you’ll likely never buy another eve product again. Man it’s bad.

Honestly I used it before I even had an Eve device, because it was free and allowed me to program certain conditional rules that are still impossible to program in the Home app (e.g. humidity thresholds with more precision than 5%, other details I can’t remember because they “just work” now)

This Matter Beta is a mess! Never saw such bad performance. Most of the time it is not connected. Removing and adding ends that it is not seen anymore to pair. All iOS are on 16.2. and i have enough iPod minis. imho this is early alpha...

Hopefully not, Matter and Eve is still a mess (at least in my Beta).

No, I believe that matter only uses the thread protocol. For instance, if you have zigbee devices, they cannot be updated to support matter. You might get a zigbee bridge that supports matter however.

Nope. Aqara's devices that are getting Matter support work on Zigbee.(And it's possible they will no longer require the Aqara hub to work but you might want to have one anyway.) And they also support Thread. They are not alternative technologies. Devices that support Matter and Thread are able to work with HomeKit, Amazon's standard, and Google's standard. You can buy any Matter device and they automatically work with all three.
