You want to elaborate on how he "fooled" people?

Do a search on here for "get a laptop".

When I say "fooled". I feel if he would of kept the device politics out of his keynote and just introduced the iPad, instead of the iPad featuring the Netbook. People wouldn't be so confused about what it could and couldn't do.

imo The iPad and the Netbook isn't even in the same class to be comparing the 2. Both good in its own way, but the iPad is a different kind of beast.

Right! If you think of this as a laptop replacement your going to be sorely disappointed.

This thing is barley even a computer! :D

But after all, it's just another tool in the box.

Just depends how big of a box you want ;)

Well said! I wouldn't build a house with a hammer and screw driver, either.

You knew the limitations of the device before you bought it. Jailbreaking only alleviates limitations on any iDevice to a certain extent. Believing the iPad jailbreak would make it a laptop is unreasonable.

where is the mass market for this thing?
I dunno. I guess ask the 1 million people that bought em.

I think ppl should think sanely before giving money to apple for any of its products.

I mean, I am great fan of Apple products but since when the iPad was announced, I knew that it's not for me! It has no place in my life. I never bought one and I don't feel I am missing anything! I went to apple store and checked it out and I still think it's not for me.

Everyone should judge his/her own lifestyle and then decide whether he/she needs an iPad. Just don't fool for the marketing or "millions sold" thing. Make a decision for you!!

BTW I love iPhone and I think I will continue to buy an iPhone in future unless something terribly goes wrong with it or someone else comes up with a better phone!

So, decide for yourself and don't just go with the flow! Don't "create" a need for an iDevice, but make sure you need it!

When I initially read this post I was trying to get a sense of what the writer was saying. I understand the words and the context behind it but does he or she really think that this post will in anyway influence someone as to whether the iPad is or is not for them. This seems more of a rant than anything of value considering all that has been posted about this subject since the iPad was officially introduced. It seems as though the writer is now having buyers remorse and found a public outlet to express their displeasure. I for one do not need his or her advice in making my educated and informed decisions when utilizing my purchasing power. I find this a whiny and sophomoric post at best.

It just works!

Personally, I think the iPad is a dream to use. It makes the everyday simple things that the average Joe wants to do, just that bit simpler.
True story - my mother in law has come to stay with me (not looking for sympathy, but all is welcome)!!!.. Anyway, and she wants to watch a movie or two in the spare room when she heads to bed in the evening. Now I know I've got an extensive movie collection on my hard drive (over 300 gigs worth courtesy of TPB!) and I know that my Mrs has an assignment due so she's working on the laptop. The quite simple solution was to let the 'old bag' use my Mrs iPad to stream the movies from the laptop via airvideo. Now had I not had an iPad and instead let's say another laptop, then she would have had to bring that into the room with the hard drive and probably the power cables aswell. She watched the entire series of The Pacific in the end, all on the iPad!! My Mrs worked all night on her assignment and I had a good night sleep with no nagging and a romantic encounter with Mr Right Hand!!! True story!!!

Last line was and is hilarious...

The fact that so many people are happy with the iPad despite its limitations suggests that for a high percentage of people and for a high percentage of activities, the average Mac/PC laptop has been overkill for a long time.

OP I have read you post a couple of times now and besides of being very painful to read I still don't understand what you couldn't do with the iPad.

I'm still on the 1st gen. and have been using the iPad more and more everyday.
As I'm typing this I have iCab open with 5 tabs downloaded a 120 mb zip file full of pictures listen to music in the background and now am unzipping the file
so that I can work with the pictures.

So please explain to me / us what you are trying to do that you can't.
Because opening 5 or more website tabs can't be it as this works with many of the browsers available.
Same with putting on various files onto the iPad be it via download or via dropbox or many other ways.

And yes I know that the iPad does not support flash but that has been known since the first iPhone came out and is not a new revelation to you or anyone else.
But even for that there are apps that let you do most of that minus the addverts.

I thought the jailbreak would make this awesome, but I just don't get the appeal of the iPad I guess. 13 inch laptops, like the MacBook, are just as portable. But, you have all of your information in one place. You don't have ton pull workarounds just tonged a file onto the system. No apps you have to juggle, just hit download and your golden. Apple consticted thisnthing to the max.

Don't understand why they put such few ram into this thing. Why couldn't they have put 1gb so that more than one Internet window can be open? It shouldn't be too difficult considering thisnthing is just an Internet viewer, that isn't even great at that. You have to go through apps to get websites and videos to be able to function.

Going back ton my laptop was almost a relief. I even reach for my droid before my iPad, because it's so much bigger. When I need to get something done, I reach for my laptop because the iPad can not do it. What was the point of thisnproduct. Yeah, it sold a million. Of course, it had so much hype. But, in the long run, I don't think tablets will succeed. Dell has it right with their 5 inch tablet. It's the perfect size, can replace a phone and netbook, and will really have usability in people's everyday life. Thisnthing would be awesome for trips, but its not worth even close to $700. Bring this down to a 300-400 starting point with the biggest not getting over 550 to 600 and that is what it is worth. You can't even view half the internet, and it can't be on your person at all times. Where is the mass market of this thing?

I use Keynote extensively a few months ago. I was running between four different rooms giving presentations. I simply plugged the iPad into the projector and whammo, instant slideshow! That would be a hassle with a 7lb laptop.

Plus running the iPad through the airport is tons easier than a laptop. Super easy to read my tons of pdf's and annotate them.

I use my laptop to create, but the iPad to make small edits, and read my entire library.
