Every night before I go to sleep I like to watch an episode of something on my iPod (160gb). It's just used for TV shows and some films, though I never make it through a short 25 minute TV show before I fall asleep clutching the iPod.
It's very relaxing until I wake up a few hours later worrying that I've damaged it.
(incidentally I started doing this when the thread began all those years ago!)

All the time. In fact to me it seems normal to fall also rep with my MacBook next to me either after watching a movie or surfing the web. Only time I don't sleep with it is when I'm with a woman.

I almost always fall asleep with my laptop next to me. If it's not next to me, it's on my desk, next to me.

Yes, but resurrected threads are nothing new; sometimes, a spammer lands in one, resurrecting it. Other times, idle browsing means you arrive at one, think it interesting enough to read, and proceed to click and post without realising its venerable age rooted in computing antiquity.

Yes they did sometimes come up with old threads when a spammer searched for relevant keywords, but it's been happening a lot more often since the new forum software came in. I've even almost accidentally replied to a very old thread to point out that what the OP was looking for was actually quite easy and the feature they were complaining about missing is around only to realize that the thread was ancient and it was a legitimate problem at the time.

Ah. I see.

So, you think that this issue has become a lot more pronounced since the forum software was changed? Interesting.

Yes I do, before the software was changed it was almost all spammers resurrecting the threads, and then when it popped up actual users would sometimes keep on posting without noticing the date on the OP, but now thanks to the similar threads "feature" regular users see the threads down there and then just start posting.

That seems odd considering there's a big timestamp above every post. Maybe people just need time to become accustomed to the location.

Well, I suspect that quite a lot of people don't bother looking at the timestamp; instead, they note the thread title and decide to plunge in…...
