I do agree about the heat. Both the 15" and 17" Penryn are big improvements from the previous versions. They are night and day compared to the original MacBook Pro. Just goes to show you that most of the "professional" reviews completely ignore this area when I would consider it the most improved aspect of this entire revision.

so I pulled the lever on this; ordered a 17" MBP 2Gb (I have 4Gb of Crucial memory), Hi Res glossy, 250GB 5400. 2.6GHz.

I wondered about going with the 200/7200 disk, but figured I dont do enough to notice the difference and would prefer the space. I can upgrade to a 320/7200 later if they come down in price.

There have been a lot of reviews/impressions written, so I wont try to repeat the good reviews already out there, but if there is something inquiring minds would like to know.....

and yes, I am aware of the Appleinsider piece on a refresh; we all knew something was coming, probably based on Montevina, probably this year possibly after WWDC--but those are all rumors and possibilities. I chose not to play the waiting game, knowing that even if something new does come out in the fall, I will have had a pretty darn good unit in my hands for at least the rest of this year
