OneNote is amazing. I moved to it when prices changed (I was an Evernote pro? member back then). But I found Google Keep more to my liking. I'd have used Apple Notes but at work we use Windows.

Evernote never struck me as having customer service high on their list of priorities. I was a super heavy user of Evernote when it first came out - liked it... till I found out that it doesn't deal with large databases very well. Didn't take long before I had to start deleting stuff to keep the app usable. Then their app updates would cause data loss and reduced feature sets (or laggier app access times). So I left Evernote for a few years until last year when I thought I'd give it another try (bought a year of Pro) - and couldn't stand it.

Been using Keep for years and years. The only fear I have is that Google will one day decide that it will remove that service. Until then, I use it like crazy and it handles thousands of notes with no lag and amazing search with access from any device.

OneNote, though, is AMAZING (tried it for a month when I left Evernote a few months ago). If I wasn't already a heavy Keep user - I found OneNote an EXCELLENT Evernote replacement.

My usage prefers smaller, more numerous notes so Keep works perfectly for me.

Just formally deactivated my account from the Evernote website, after deleting all my notes and emptying the trash. Nothing on there barring university lecture notes, but even so it's the principle. I've been using Notes since it could natively import Evernote XML files anyway for easy transfer.

At least they're being upfront, I guess. But their subscription model and feature clutter riled me and this was the icing on a sh*tty cake, so I've finally gone. Used to be the note-taking application after Lotus Notes, sad.

Haha, deleted.

(If you delete an app is the developer notified?)

Nope, and you need to close your Evernote account from their website. They'll be able to see that, for sure.

Apple Notes is not an alternative because Apple is so crazy in the closed environment, you must own Apple software+hardware to access it.

Which for a vast majority of Apple customers is easy to achieve- they own hardware and run the software. But then the mix of software, hardware (and services these days) is what makes an Apple product.

Cloud storage - and basically anything to do with the cloud, to me is similar to how the banks and banking system started. It is everything to do with trust. I'd imagine that there were many many banks at the beginning, and only the most trustworthy survived (not that we can trust banks much these days either though). Most likely some of those early banks were in it for dubious reasons while others probably took it way more seriously.

I am wondering what everyone is using now or what they are going to? I have seen from this thread, Apple Notes, OneNote and Google Keep. Has anyone tried that new one called "Centrallo" or something like that? Looks to be trying to position itself as an Evernote alternative but not sure if it's any good or not. I'll be honest - I've been an Evernote user for years. But, I agree. I think they need to re-think their policies on privacy and stop allowing their employees to read your notes. If anything, have this be an "Opt-in" feature and explain what you would be giving up if they do not allow this.

Gotta be Notes if you're security-conscious and want a convenient solution, I value Apple's policies on user privacy way higher than Microsoft's or Google's. Just use two-factor authentication for your Apple ID and pick a good password.

Less useful if you need a multi-platform solution, however.

Hmm. If I was a business, I’d seriously consider not using Evernote. Imagine if you were storing notes related to a new product or business strategy. Regardless of anonymity, EverNote’s staff are human and can’t be trusted with sensitive information for that reason alone. People are terrible “secret" keepers.

If EverNote wants to conduct quality checks, it should depend on customers to voluntarily report issues if and when they arise.

I seriously doubt Evernote is going to expend the resources required to have people sitting around reading every note from every customer.

Paranoia can lead to paralysis if not kept in relation to reality.

I think it's simply about our right to privacy. I don't want anybody reading my private documents. This has been a rule for Evernote in the past and they are weakening it. Cloud solutions aren't safe, humans make mistakes and the latest colossal screw-ups from Yahoo are just a quick reminder that online and secure are often exact opposites.

Yet another company being run by morons... using pathetic excuses to steal.
I've deleted all my notes from their app and removed the app from my devices.

There are two things I love about Evernote that I haven't been able to duplicate elsewhere; the web clipper (whole article, not just the URL) and presentation mode. I don't think these are possible in other applications.

So glad I dumped that bloated nagware of a product.

I'm using Apple notes now. A focused, well executed product.
Bloated, maybe. Not sure as I don't use it.
As for nagware I have NEVER been nagged as much by anything anywhere as Apple software.
iOS and iOS app updates, OSX updates......

Oi, Apple. Once I tell you I don't want that darn update go away and don't ask me again!!!

Not 100% feature identical to the clipper but have you tried Instapaper? It lets you save articles for later/offline reading and I think it's free these days.

Convincing a judge is a much higher bar than the staff reading your documents whenever they feel it.
Right... but if you turn off Evernote's new machine-learning 'feature', the privacy statement for Evernote is pretty much identical to any other note sync service, including legal requirements as to when staff can access and share your data.

Thanks to Evernote for reminding me I've been meaning to move all my old notes over to iCloud notes.

iCloud notes are a great example of Apple getting things right in the Apple Way. It's good to see that Apple is still able to make perfect products like that.
