I was so tempted to get the Mini back in the day but didn't and I have regretted it since. I'm very glad I got the Air and I'm starting to think these "specialty" phones might be the way forward for me as I often don't like the typical models (Pro and non pro).

Yeah from reading your other comments I think you’d have loved the mini. It was so pocketable, light and the best phone I’ve ever had for one handed use for obvious reasons.

Glad you’re enjoying your air, let’s hope apple keep evolving it with future generations as I’m sold too!

Pretty much goes like this (found on Reddit, I edited to remove one word but you can figure it out). Very Accurate lol. Why are people so angry at Air owners and about the Air existing?

There’s also a huge amount of people who are happy with the phone they have, and rightly see this whole Air vs Pro lover’s tiff as akin to a crowd of Flat Earthers arguing with a group of people who are convinced the planet is a cube.

The problem is not which side is right, the problem is the fact that people are even giving oxygen to either dude of the non-argument.

Take a step back and notice that there’s iPhone users with an iPhone that is neither an Air nor Pro, and they’re enjoying their phone, not finding reasons to whine about a phone they didn’t buy.

Caveat Emptor.

Oof… hate…
Our world needs more love.

As much as I dislike iPhone Air I would have never hated anyone who has that device. It is just a phone.

In general I start to realize smartphones these days are very boring and basic to my liking. For my own money I have to weight in which compromises I am ready to take this year. It is not flawless experience anymore. It is not just Air, it is across whole range:

16e? Never liked that one, awkward looking phone that screams “look at me I am cheap”. 17? Looks ugly and boring, same as 16. I don’t know who liked this design to start with. Comparing to 15 it is very bad on the rear end, this camera pill sucks… 17 Pro? Not quite what I expected, largest camera bump ever, heavy. Air? Not gonna list disadvantages of this one because everyone knows those.

As for competition, there is none. Pixel? Not a fan of same priced phone that would also earn money for tracking my info. Samsung? Very boring and also ugly camera rings this year, plus company is no more innovating and simply copies Apple’s ideas or recycles them.

Another problem is software. Apple is in big trouble these days when it comes to software. Their AI is non-existent, and computational photography doesn’t count, in photography I don’t want or need ugly AI algorithms ruining my ideas. Their “liquid glass” design is barely something new and instead brings new issues for users, and there is barely any new design in it except the transparent sliders and some menus… Software is stale and also becoming cluttered with features, up to the point of becoming unintuitive

Very true.

It is truly amazing that we have such a wide number of options of iPhones to choose from, that is what makes me happy.
I definitely don’t want them to kill off the Air.

I personally think they could have tried a little harder with it, but I think they will with Air 2.

Another perspective here is that people see the one camera in the Air then see the price and don’t see it as worth it versus a Pro or even the base iPhone. I truly believe if the Air got a 2nd camera + LiDAR the conversation would have been slightly different, the design is a little TOOO simple as the other iPhones with 1 camera are the iPhone 16E and older SEs.

I’m sure Apple will figure it out, there is a number of ways they can work to convince people on the Air range, I hope it is here to stay, as the sub-brand will work well in conjunction with MacBook Air and iPad Air.
Not everyone needs Pro features but people still want to have that visual appeal that this us a truly premium iPhone that is above the base iPhone, there exists a near perfect approach and Apple just need to nail it down in terms of features + the design…even if they choose to get slightly more “adventurous” with its design.

That’s not the situation. It isn’t Air vs Pro and which is better.

The Air crowd is in love with our phones and we don’t have interest in the Pro models. So, whenever there is a thread about the Pro phones we don’t bother to post in them.

However, when a topic gets made about the Air some of the Pro crowd goes out of their way to come into the Air threads just to trash talk the Air and its users. Often consisting of outright lies and insults.

I say to many of them “I don’t go into Pro topics to trash you so stop coming in our topics to trash us”. We want to be left alone to talk about our Air’s and for people that might be interested in the Air or have questions about it.

They basically try to shame everyone into buying another model other than the Air.

To me it looks very much like people want to and fur with other people, because that’s what people do on forums.

Why anyone gives a damn about what phone someone ekse has be and get us ludicrous.

Buy the phone you want, be happy with your choice and stop peeking over the fence into your neighbour’s yard just to find excuses to talk trash about them.

This is so absurd. The majority of Air discussions are people pointing out its flaws and Air lovers saying the flaws aren't flaws.

Nobody cares if someone likes the Air. But it's pretty clear in this forum that there are way too many people that simply won't accept the Air as a flawed device. It's honestly quite hilarious.

I like a lot about the Air personally. (Screen, ergonomics, construction.) But an earpiece speaker and single camera at a premium price point is lousy. And the sales reflect that.

Based on my personal experience with the Air I very much disagree.

Example

Battery: I have had my Air off the charger from 5am to 6pm today. I have 5 hours of SoT doing various things in my phone (combination of cellular and WiFi), and I still have 60% battery left. That’s poor battery life and a flaw to you?

I didn’t say a word about battery life.

Speaker: I tested the Air against 16 Pro that I had. When covering up the bottom speaker on the Pro the sound coming from the top speaker was tiny and noticeably top of the phone focused. With the Air, at the same volume, is much louder and actually gives the appearance that it is coming out of the display even though it clearly isn’t. I don’t know what tweak Apple did to the Air top speaker but it’s really good. Other Air users have commented on this as well. I use the speaker for speaker phone calls and watching videos and don’t notice a difference in volume or clarity. I don’t use phone speakers for music (I use my air pod pros) so can’t comment on that.

Camera: so far my pictures that I have taken with the Air are of the same quality that I got with my 16 Pro. I use my camera for taking pics of people, things at work, regular stuff. I am not walking around trying to take nature shots or pics of buildings, etc. I’m not trying to be a professional photographer if that is what you are getting at.

So far I haven’t found anything that is less functional with the Air coming from the 16 Pro.

Edit: I should add Modem. I have been happy to see I am getting better cellular reception with the Air than I did with the 16 Pro in the same areas I’m in regularly.

On top of all that the Air has been wonderful to hold, use, and carry around.

What about the pages of those with speaker crackle on here, making it up?

Why are people so angry at Air owners and about the Air existing?

The Air actually looks more premium than this year’s soap-bar Pro design, which disrupts the visual hierarchy Apple buyers expect. Many Pro and Pro Max owners pay specifically for differentiation, to signal that they own the top model, and if a cheaper phone looks more premium, that signal value is weakened. People dislike paying extra and not visibly standing apart.

A lot of Pro users also assume that everyone should care primarily about maximum specs, and it simply does not occur to them that someone else might prioritize comfort, elegance, or minimalism instead. Many tech-spec-obsessed people genuinely struggle to accept that different individuals optimize for different things. Their internal logic is essentially that the Pro is objectively the best, and therefore anything below it must be coping, poor, or clueless.

They evaluate phones as if everyone must care about 120 Hz displays, 5× zoom lenses, benchmark scores, future proofing, and raw camera flexibility. But a large number of normal users actually prioritize entirely different qualities, such as how comfortable the phone feels in the hand rather than how well it handles all-day camera rigs, or how light it is because of small hands, joint issues, or wrist strain. Many value thinness because it feels nicer and fits in pockets more easily, or prefer a cute and elegant object rather than a heavy max-tech brick, or simply want price sanity instead of feeling like a hostage to specs.

That core difference, that some people optimize for feel rather than specs, breaks the Pro mindset completely, because they view phones as performance machines rather than personal objects.

Who cares what phone you use? If you guys are so insecure about using the Air that a stupid meme like that moves you to comment 'i love my air, i love my air' then you've got your priorities in life wrong.

Grow up, no one cares what phone you use. It's just a communication rectangle.
