Or just use savings?

Well I specifically have my savings account set up that I have to go to the bank to access it. So if I have to use my cc for emergencies, it gets paid off with my savings.

This process, over the 36 years I’ve been working, is allowing me to retire at 60.

Credit card for extreme emergencies, debit card for everything else.

That makes sense for people who tend to overspend when they use a credit card, can't afford to pay off the balance every month, and/or for whom the benefits don't warrant the yearly fee. But I use credit (Amex, if accepted) for almost all purchases. The rewards and protection, especially for damage, loss, or dispute, are very much worth it for me.

Have you ever filed a warranty or loss type claim with Amex? How did it go? I’ve made a couple customer service type calls and the service was spectacular. Maybe that description is over the top, but the experience was excellent.

I've done it a few times with great results. One was for a pair of $700 glasses that were damaged a few weeks after I bought them. Another was for a computer repair under extended warranty. Amex paid me quickly each time. And I agree with you about customer service in general. When I lost my Amex card last year, I had a replacement within a day or two. They also took care of transferring automatic payments from the old number to the new one.

Well they do charge 1% more for retailers so they can afford to!

I rarely use credit cards anymore and just use prepaid cards at online store because of all the hacks over the years! They can be bought at most grocery stores anymore!
