What are his phone's problems exactly?

I have a 3G that I upgraded to iOS4 3 weeks ago. Overall, I am happy with it. No noticeable speed change. Not any more or less stable. But I like the folders and especially the combined inbox in mail.

I wish i could have that on 3.1.3, that is one big plus. Also the fact of threading for people that use gmail it actually groups the same message into one..Only reason why id go back to iOS 4.

I know the web interface for gmail has it but im not gonna launch safari every time i want to check my email.

I feel like threading sucks and only works like half the time it should

I have an 8gig 3G that I upgraded to ios 4 and I have not noticed any significant lag or crashing and it's also jailbroken. I am going Friday to get an iphone 4 (I live in Canada) so even if I did have problems with my 3G, it won't matter after Friday.:D

+1

+1 on that. Also clearly clueless and did not read prior to upgrading. I am sure he is wondering with the backgroud wall paper is.

He was happy with his 3G and was waiting for the 4 as for him the s didn't seem compelling enough to upgrade . Still
What an arrogant thing to say that it's his fault for not spending another $800
With apple so he's stuck with a slow phone. He complains of slow text response and general slowness. Honestly everyone at my company with a 3G on ios 4 is furious.

So can you downgrade in iTunes then??

There was a story in the Sydney morning herald about

http://m.smh.com.au/digital-life/iphone/iphone-3g-crippled-by-software-update-20100720-10ijp.html

There were no
Warnings about performance issues with the 3 g .

Apple should publish a bulletin on how to cure or downgrade or better still fix the ios 4.

On a separate note I'm happy with my s and will not be getting the 4. Seems to be an unsorted product. Yes illnget one eventually once they have fixed the reception issues.

If you read my back posts you will see there is no more loyal or rabid a fan boy than me but apple is behaving very un apple at the moment. I'll give them benefit of doubt though.

I have a 3gs and iOS4 is extremely buggy. I'm shocked at how ******* it is and no one seems to be talking about it. It's not so much slow as it is just crap. Apps lock, videos will even lock. I had to even do a hard restart once which is amazing considering I never had to for the entire year before iOS4. I guess in the scheme of things its still better than Andriod which I'm told is common.

I guess I won't ever complain when Apple holds back features because they want to get it right. iOS4 has a long ways to go.

I also notice that my S seems to sometimes slow now. I'm typing this and the letters seem to freeze. It's not big but yes it's not as snappy as the os3

The current iOS is always optimized for the most current hardware. Upgrading a 3G to iOS 4 was a pretty foolish move. iOS 3.0 isn't even optimized to run perfect on a 3G, why would iOS 4.0 run better? In fact, with each successive iOS 3 update, my 3G ran worse. It's twice removed from the latest iPhone hardware.

My girlfriend's 3G is horrible with the iOS4 upgrade. I feel bad, she just clicked upgrade as soon as iTunes asked and she had no idea it was a major release. Her 3G runs very slow, it takes 30-40 seconds to open an app, such as notes, mail, camera, maps. She called apple about it and they tell her to upgrade to the latest version of the OS which makes no sense because that is the problem! Apple provides no help what so ever and says there is no way to downgrade to the previous OS. Their solution is to buy a new phone!!!

I have tried resetting and upgrading and re-installing the iOS4 and nothing worked. I will try the spotlight function, hopefully that will help.

Is there a way to downgrade without jailbreaking?

It probably has to do more with how iOS4 was optimized for the iPhone 4 and the 3GS just can't handle some of the features that well.

what about 3gs?

Anyone comment on 3gs performance with ios4?

I tried to find a thread about it, but cannot. It seems there are some reports in blogs about battery performance problems and slow down, but I don't see any official style review about performance.

After returning my iphone 4, I am happier that my 3gs doesn't drop calls like the iphone 4 did, but I DO miss some of the ios4 updates.

It's like complaining about upgrading your iBook's Mac OS 9.2 to Snow Leopard.

Get real, man!

Completely different.

You chose to upgrade to Snow Leopard, you put in the disc, you install. With iOS, iTunes prompts you, if you don't know what you are doing you just click yes, because that is what you have always done to get the latest/safest software for your phone.

Also, if you don't like Snow Leopard you can just pop in your OS 9 disk and downgrade, no questions. With iOS you have NO option supported by Apple to downgrade and to be honest jailbreaking doesn't seem like the best option.

4.1 beta 1 is fantastically faster on my iPod touch 2g compared to 4.0.

4.1 is definitely going to be magical!

No it's not.

We are talking about a phone used by anyone not you elite Mac users.

When you plug your iPhone into iTunes and it says your software is out of date most peole including me and my mate who has about 6 macs quite reasonably click yes. There were no warnings about loss of performance.

Apple had been seriously lacking here.

3G Users can go back

I can't believe that apple has dropped the ball so much recently and there has not been more said about this.

I have a 3GS and upgraded to ios 4 without issues. But everyone I know. Who upGraded their 3G hates it.. One guy is more of an apple fan boy than me and is so livid he seriously thinking of getting an android phone.

Can they downgrade to ios 3 ? What is apple doing to help these users??

Follow these directions. My brother did it and worked like a charm. However, it wouldn't work for my 3GS.
Good luck.

I sold my 3G with the iOS 4 update to some dude for 200 bucks. Phone was in perfect condition and he was VERY clear that he'd be asking for a refund if anything was wrong.

I guess he's not having any issues.
