Google never once told me what side of the street my destination was on. I have had an iPhone since 2007 with the birth of the iPhone and have used every rendition of Google maps and used it constantly to look up information on businesses as well as navigation.

Sorry, I was referring to the Android version of Google maps. iPhone Google maps are also pretty worthless due to lack of turn by turn navigation so I always ended up using 3rd party alternatives.

Personally I think I still miss GMaps specifically Street View. Fly-Over seems to be a USA feature only; leaving those of us in other parts of the world left out. Toronto's flyover is garbage it isn't even there.

Then again, seeing a Google Street View Car just 60 steps from my apartment door parked for over 2weeks daily doesn't give me much hope Google plans on advancing.

You can't blame Apple for you not having the latest hardware.

They're vector based, that alone makes them superior.

Who needs dazzling colours?

False. The Text is much clear and less crowded.

Errors can easily be corrected if reported.

Maybe at the moment. Easily improved.

Go to more exciting places then. :p

Reflection of the user maybe. :p

Are you serious? An iPhone 4 is one generation behind, the colors are far less appealing, the routes are longer and worse, google maps are also vector based, also have turn by turn navigation, 3d maps, but with smarter routes AND public transport. You have no argument, get a life. Google Maps on Android has everything Apple Maps and more, but is also considerably more refined. If Apple had just upgraded Google Maps instead of deciding to create its own then everyone would have benefitted.

iPhone 4 will be two generations behind at launch.

What's Google Maps is like on Android is irrevelant, Google will obviously keep a better version for their own OS. That's why Apple needs their own maps.

...

Why should Flyover be US-only? There are already a few cities outside of the US available and C3 technologies had much more cities ready, when they were taken over by Apple.

I'd rather use daum map. Supports Korea. And I think way better than apple's map in iOS 6

Guys, I just wanna say that Maps outside of US are really terrible, streets are wrong, POI's are wrong. It's not very good right now.

I'd love to check my adrea (Country NSW), but not being a developer means no access to the Beta in any easy way....

In reality I think the maps wont quite be as good as Google at first, but will quickly get better.

UK is mostly fine except for the odd town in the sea. ;) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343044411.243380.jpg

The main problem is that everyone sees what's like on Beta 1 and automaticaally assume that Beta 1 means that's 100% exactly what the final version will be, despite the "Beta" part, and when you show them the improvements the next betas bring along they still assume Beta 1 version = final version.

Apple Maps isn't complete yet. It may not even be 100% complete until the 6th Generation iPhone is released.

As far as current performance on iOS 6, it works wonderfully on my iPhone 4S. It works accurately for me and has full coverage of my entire town and the town next over where I go often. In fact, i've only found one other GPS app or GPS period that can fully navigate to my house, and that's Waze (and I live in a hidden area. No car GPS offers full directions and very few portable GPSes do).

As far as comparison to Google Maps on Android, GMaps runs exceptionally well on my friend's GNEX, and it does have features I would wish Apple Maps would have (Like Offline Maps or Indoor Maps).

Google did state they are commited to bringing their Map features to iOS after they annouced their new maps and before WWDC2012 (which basically confirmed that Apple dropped Google).

I see myself in the future using both apps no more than the oher. If I had to pick one I would choose Apple Maps since it better fits iOS and the features missing aren't enough to make me completely turn away from Apple Maps.

Just my 2 cents.

Maybe it's Sealand. ;)

I understand that new features are withheld from older devices, but the Maps experience on my phone is now worse than it was on 5.1.1, and that's just wrong.

the ability to voice-search for destinations with Siri is a game-changing feature that the other GPS apps don't really have...i have Navigon and love it visually and having offline maps, but without a voice search, it will give the edge to Apple Maps imho.

Are there a lot of changes between the first and the last beta when it comes to maps?

My issue is inaccuracy.

This is exactly what I experienced. I live in a very large major metro area that is highly populated. One in which Google Maps is simply superb. Therefore the Google Map experience is as flawless as they come.

Having in car navigation in both my wife's new MBZ, and my BMW, both of which are also quite good, the three of them all agree for the very first time. Google made a big jump in accuracy in recent years, and now that so many use them, or Navtec, as hard as I've tried to accept Apple maps, they simply have too far to go before their accuracy is reliable.

Even my handheld Garmin will pinpoint various locations and landmarks, whereas Apple maps are usually at least 1/2 mile off. At first I did a double take, thinking it was the way I used it, but upon checking over and over, the results were always filled with Errors.

That said I do believe at some point Apple will get them working properly, the question is just how long it will take them. Apple was far too quick to announce and put their mapping into service. This is one area that needs a lot of work.

I thought Android had an equivalent of voice search destinations?

Well its a good thing you're using the report button to help Apple fix these issues.........right?

Exactly! I send in any reports of mis-information I find when using maps. They have a BP station listed on the map near my house that hasn't been there for 10 years. And an Autozone has been sitting in its place for 8. They can only do so much with the information available. They partnered with TomTom to help with building a database.

The problem with Apple's Maps app in iOS 5 and previous was the app itself, the front-end, not the backend and its data.

The fix proposed by Apple in iOS 6 is to swap out the back-end.

Google doesn't "obviously keep a better version" for their own OS, Google never made one for iOS to begin with. The front-end Application was under Apple's responsibility. All the features it lacked was Apple's own fault for not implementing them from Google's data.

Basically, they replace the only part of the app that was good : the actual Map data. That is the issue people have with it.

I've tried turn-by-turn navigation on the iPhone, and it doesn't seem to work at all. The app will sometimes be late to notify the user that a turn is coming up, making the driver miss the turn or have to turn very quickly.

Also, doesn't Google Maps on iOS have turn-by-turn navigation, just without voice? It can be used as a navigator as long as someone besides the driver is paying attention to it. It still has the problem mentioned above.

This.

I'm pretty sure that Apple makes the Google Maps app on iOS. It seems like they left those features out to begin with to make Apple Maps look better, and this would not surprise me.

Apple maps still needs some work, but we haven't seen the final release of ios 6 yet. We are still in beta, it will get a lot better when the next iphone comes out.

That being said, it's still good enough for me to use right now. I drove 1200 miles from Tampa to Chicago the other day using a windshield mounted 4s. Worked like a charm.

Google this. There has been a lot of information. Google has a say on what features are available through it licensing. They have to negotiate the feature-set.
